“As a physician myself, I have obviously worked and trained with many colleagues, which in theory should help me appraise another doctor's skills more easily. On the other hand, when a doctor finds himself treating a colleague, at times this can change the dynamics of this process - not always for the better. In any case, my initial experience with Dr. Varma was extremely positive and helpful. I was optimistic about my visit after speaking with his professional and warm assistant, Mary, who is a pleasure to work with. Then I found his office to be an oasis in an otherwise prosaic stretch of Route 35 - a beautiful and airy space which - at least to my eye - indicates that this professional cares about his surroundings, and is aware of the impact of his office environment on his staff and patients. Finally, I was astonished to find - in this day and age of compressed managed care - that I was not rushed or interrupted, and was allowed to relate my symptoms and full history, which unfortunately for Dr. Varma was quite convoluted and lengthy He was attentive and entirely focused on my care, with a commitment to not only spelling out his own role in this process, but also ensuring that appropriate complementary specialists were included in my care. He set up a 1-week follow-up, and refrained from ordering a multitude of tests and imaging studies, which might not add much value to my treatment. His exam seemed quite complete and unrushed. He validated all my concerns and offered helpful feedback which was both articulate and astute. Overall, though this was only a first encounter, I would rate Dr. Varma at a high level of professionalism and engagement, a difficult combination to find these days. I highly recommend him.”

“This woman changed my life. People immediately feel turned away because they don't see someone who gives them the warm fuzzies, or hold their hand. They don't find someone who will hug them, or feed into this idea that she's supposed to tell them what they want to hear. She forced me to find the strength in myself to finally address, and stand up for myself after all these years of being walked on, used, abused, manipulated, despite that I knew these people were all doing it. All she did was force me to confront myself instead of hiding behind the excuses and cover lies to protect the people who were hurting me. It's uncomfortable. It's painful.. and you want to fight back.. you want to fight HER despite she's not the one who did anything wrong. It took me some time to come to terms with this. I've been forced to see therapists since I was a 3 year old kid in foster care.. but for the first time in my life, she was the only one who actually made a difference. She cares - I do see it.. there's a depth of understanding and empathy in her.. When I found myself breaking down, which was incredibly hard for me to do, I saw the empathy in her eyes.. but she has her own life that's separate from her professional life - and she can't get swept up and carried away by every life story from every patient she works with. She gives you honest, direct truth that will force you to confront yourself. If you want someone who will tell you what you want to hear, I suggest you get a friend, and not pay $75.00hr. I already know she doesn't bother reading her reviews, we spoke about it in person. I just thought I'd let anyone out there know, who might be swayed by those posted like I almost was.”

“I am more than grateful on how much the amount of emotional and therapeutic support I had received at Innerspace. During my time here, I became so attached to the place and it was a bitter-sweet departure when it came to my graduation. However, I came to Innerspace for a reason, which was to learn copping skills to manage my depression, anxiety, and stress that I deal with on a daily basis. This place taught me a lot about the skills I've learned, and a lot about myself and why I feel the way I feel whenever I'm at my lows, which is how I was when I first started. The entire staff was extremely friendly, helpful, caring, supportive, nonjudgmental, and provided an amazing amount of material that I needed in order to get to where I wanted to be. Same can be said for the support group I had grown attached to as well. Everyone always offered the best feedback and were all nonjudgmental about whatever was discussed. I highly recommend Innerspace to anyone that is seeking some type of IOP treatment and to make the best out of it like I did!”
