Such a nice, easy hiking trail. Lots of beautiful birds and plants. I loved the signs with plant names, I see these plants all over NM and didn't know the names of many of them. There's one trash can at the entrance and a sign in sheet. Two benches along the trail and one wooden shack to view wildlife. Dog friendly but there's no poop bags, so make sure to bring some along.
This is an exceptional place in an odd location.🤔. Tucked into a curve at the end of a guard rail entering San Ysidro, NM going north on Hiway 550 is there coolest little nature trail you've ever seen. 😁This is a desert trail with beautiful desert features, if ever you get the chance to see the trail under a full moon🤠🤟, highly recommended. 😎👍 It should be noted, nature trail, nature may intercept your interlude. 🐾🐾🐾
Nice short hike if you have small kids. Some picnic tables would have been nice. Mid may to June and late fall are probably the best times to go when everything is growing and there are more birds.
Perea Nature Trail is a real cute ~1 mile long well-marked walkway that meanders along highway 550 and along Salado Rio just outside of the Zia (where the NM state emblem came from) & Jemez Pueblos & Mountains. It's a beautiful stop (even though I'm 20 minutes away) I'll be back to just to chill in such a beautiful surrounding.
Want to break up your drive from Jemez or Cuba to Albuquerque with a quick & easy, but beautiful loop hike through a nature reserve?
Try the Perea Nature Trail, by San Ysidro off of NM-550. Signs mark local plants of note for a botanical lesson with the scenery.
