I have been a customer of The River Connection for over 15 years. Most recently I picked up a new P&H Virgo MV. What a great compact and versatile sea kayak! Prior to putting down my money I was able to do two hour demo paddle out of their private launch on the Hudson River. Marshall provides kayakers with exceptional service. I have now purchased nine kayaks from him along with needed safety gear, and clothing. I have also received personal/group instruction and ACA certification there. Having traveled extensively in the Northeast I have been to most, if not all of the better kayak shops in NY, Mass, RI, Maine and Georgia. You will not find a better or more knowledgeable specialty paddling shop anywhere.
Marshall is a great guy! My wife had bought the wrong boat (for her) during the pandemic. She battled with fit and comfort and it was time to end this war. After much research, we were drawn to the River Connection and the PH Virgo to fix the mistake. We live on long island, not close, but while coming home from the finger lakes, an opportunity presented itself. Marshall was patient and Informative. He took his time, giving us both a trial paddle. I'm a novice and I probably learned more about the sport in this 2hr visit than I have in a summer of paddling . I didn't intend on buying another kayak (#5.. 🤪), but we left with a Virgo lashed to the roof. I have little doubt there will be another pur hase in the future (I'm not thrilled with my Wilderness Tarpon 140 choice either). My ONLY regret is that we live so far away..... Now to sell her Eddyline Sitka.
I was interested in a particular kayak that I had seen well reviewed online. When I got there, Marshall very patiently explained all of the features of the kayak. After I told him I was having problems with my current kayak getting back in from a wet exit, he demonstrated a better way of doing it. We then went to a small pond where it was able to try the boat out in the water. Again Marshall was giving great tips on how to handle the boat. I was very happy with the service I received at River Connection. And yes, I did end up buying the kayak. An excellent experience all around.
This a great place to get a kayak (and training) to paddle almost everywhere. Marshall has vast knowledge about kayaks, paddling in general, and paddling is the Hudson Valley specifically. Highly recommended.
The River Connection and Marshall epitomize what’s great and the importance of local independently owned specialty stores. It’s true of so many industries and certainly with kayaking. Having someone as knowledgeable as Marshall to take the time to guide you through your purchase of a kayak, a paddle, a PFD, or other accessories and safety gear is invaluable. Adding the ability to get on the water and try the gear out also makes a huge difference. I am customer for life and strongly recommend that you reach out to Marshall and make a trip to The River Connection if you are looking to buy a kayak or kayak gear.
