I emphatically recommend visiting this museum if you like history and are interested in cobblestone building techniques. It is more than just cobblestones though! We had an incredibly knowledgeable guide and appreciate him and the time he took to guide us.
Presenter were very knowledgeable and happy to inform the guest... The exhibits were also set up in a way that was very organized...
If you do not schedule a tour, you will only be able to see the outside of the buildings. Plan on your tour takung between 1 1/2 to 2 hours. There were 3 cobblestone buildings and 4 wooden buildings filled with period pieces. Bring walking shoes because you will cover approximately 2 blocks walking from building to building. This was the largest one room schoolhouse I have ever seen. Learning about how the cobblestone buildings were constructed was fun. I especially liked the rock sorters. I also enjoyed the huge variety of items in the grange building including the large collection of taxidermy birds and the doggie tread mill butter churn.
Wonderful tour of multiple properties chock full of interesting objects and unique artifacts. Well worth the visit and the time - we spent 3 hours there and could have spent another two, just looking at the hundreds and hundreds of items. Everything is very well displayed in the rooms to give a real feel for how life was lived and in a much more thorough and engaging way than traditional museums like Williamsburg. It was like walking into someone's house from 100 years ago
Very excited about this museum campus in Albion! We attended the exhibit opening for Victorian Mourning, it was fascinating and well curated.
The Cobblestone Museum is a real asset to the area and I'm looking forward to attending future events and bringing my family for a tour!
