“I went to PS 17 from 1979 to 1982 (2nd grade to 5th grade; teachers- Mrs Lipshitz, Ms Gerantano, Ms Gaines, Ms Berger; Principal was Dr Helen Hanges), all excellent teachers, good caring professional human beings. It is now 2022, I have yet to meet better human beings. It is unfortunate that the world is not run by good hardworking empathic teachers like them, the world would be kind, and there would be less mental illness overall. I truly miss my time there. The education was second to none; I went to Townsend Harris HS (top HS in NYC), got Phi Beta Kappa at Barnard College,NYC, and then I became a physician in internal medicine. But, I still have not met more capable teachers and kinder human beings than at PS 17. I drive by the school sometimes and reminisce.”
