“This place is beautiful to visit even in winters. The place was quite cold when we went in December, but bearable. I would suggest taking a thick coat and gloves. It has all the amenities nearby the trekking mountain - there is a snack bar where you get bars, ice cream etc. There is a restaurant where you can eat good food. There is even an ice skating rank which is I feel is the highlight of the area. You can pay just $10 and skate there for 1 hour and 30 minutes. I would say pretty good deal. The trail itself takes about 2 hours. Had a wonderful time!”

“One fine Sunday, we went to Bear mountain state park for scenery and photo shooting. But the traffic was so packed we weren't able to go up, the road was blocked and apparently, reservation is required in order to drive all the way up the mountain. Eventhough we ended up going back home , the view all the way around the mountain is amazing. A must see destination for fall scenery.”

“This is my troop's second time overnight camping here, and it's perfect for our age level! The beds/mattresses, fire rings, nicely marked hiking trails, and group indoor areas make for a great experience all around.”

“another great stop. a nice addition to any trip. don't forget Fort Montgomery on the other side of the river and you can check out the great views from the bear mountain bridge. go to the park and not to mention a zoo is near by. if thats not enough for you to come here. there are plenty of awesome trails”

“Beautiful views, Hiking, row boats. There is a zoo here also. Bear Mountain is a great location to take the family. People need to clean up their garbage or it ruins the land for the wildlife and humans alike.”

“Great trail to hike in the fall weather - no bugs and fresh cool air. However rocks were pretty slippery because of the previous night rain. Would definitely be very challenging and in some parts dangerous during Winter. Beautiful view of water fall and sound of streams running all along the trail. Nice spots for picnic. Though my 6-yr old made the entire Bridle path loop hike, it’s pretty rough (uphill and rocky) for younger kids.”

“Quiet spot offering panoramic views of the Hudson River and the Bear Mountain Bridge. From Hessian Lake (where crowds congregate during the warm summer months), you can hike a trail that leads directly to this place. The hike took us 20 minutes.”

“Not as good as Anthony Wayne Recreational Area Parking Lot Number One, but not as bad as Anthony Wayne Recreational Area Parking Lot Number Three. Park here for events taking place , or just park here and go hiking in the very beautiful local nature. The lot is large with lots of room to park. The possibility of you not finding a place to park, I would say, slim to none. Come on down and park”

“Even from 202, this outcropping is a sight to behold. Nestled in the valley, Iona Island preserves the land's natural beauty as well as diverse ecology. I drove in (when the road was not flooded) to see a thorough posterboard of the wildlife and diversity in the preserve. Railroad tracks run under an old Naval ammunition center (closed to the public. I didn't do a ton of exploring, but the map indicated there are some trails to hike around the island. A huge number of songbirds and hunting birds (including the bald eagle!) nest and make homes here. I wish I could share sounds as well as pictures, as there was an orchestra of birdsong the whole time I was there.”
