To say that we are delighted with our new house would be an understatement. The whole process of planning and building was fun and exciting! CGM's team and recommended vendors were always helpful and courteous as well as being at the top of their field. Our granddaughter's reaction after seeing the house sums up our experience very well. She said, "I knew it would be nice, but I didn't know it would be THIS nice!"
On time and On Budget!
CGM Construction built our house on time and on budget despite Covid 19 restrictions and supply constraints. The quality of the construction exceeded my expectations. The craftsmanship is that of a house that would easily cost 5 times what my house cost.
We started by designing the house with CGMs suggested architect -David Hopper. We had/have unique property constraints. He was efficient and responsive. We met at CGMs office and were done after 3 meetings due to his expertise and collaboration with CGM. Now that the house is done, I can say he and CGM knocked it out of the park.
Our existing house was torn down and the new house erected on the property. I was fortunate to be able to rent a house just down the street from my property. I was on site every day (just for 15-30 min) and got to know each employee. All of them were terrific! They arrived before 7 am each day and were working at 7 am until quitting time at 3:30 pm. Every one of them was experienced and had a great attitude. Bad weather was never an excuse despite this project starting in late Sept 2020 and finishing in late March 2021. The only missed day was when we had 3 feet of snow. CGM plowed the site at 6:00 am the next day (despite the contract stating snow removal was my responsibility) and the crew were there and working by 7 am.
Work site was kept clean and tidy. The dumpster was emptied when full and never overflowed. By the way, the dumpster didn’t even have a spot of rust on it! My neighbors had no complaints.
I used CGM’s suggested suppliers and that was a great experience also. The allowances for appliances, bath fixtures, lighting, doors, tile, flooring, kitchen cabinets, fireplace, paving etc. was generous. If you came under the allowance, a credit was issued promptly. Materials were always near the top of a manufacturer's offering (I checked!) - windows, plumbing, HVAC, siding, roofing, interior paint and trim - never “builders grade”. CGM is large enough to have pull with its suppliers like the “mega” builders (thus limiting supplier delays), but small enough to cater to your every whim. Speaking of which:
THEY ANSWER OR RETURN PHONE CALLS!! Even if they (Chris Sr and Chris Jr) are on vacation and you have not signed a contract yet! Communication was excellent throughout the entire project.
Speaking of craftsmanship and and attention to detail: every baseboard is caulked, every screw slot in every switch/outlet plate is vertical, all trim corners are mitered with no gaps, exhaust fans in bathrooms are super quiet Panasonic with multiple timer options, our staircase and banisters were custom stained to match our floors (at no extra cost and on a Saturday morning no less!), tile work is evenly gaped, straight and level- just beautiful, all 12 gauge wiring on the entire first floor, all plumbing and wiring in the basement is neat and well laid out, HVAC has vents in the basement ducts to heat and cool if desired, all door locks keyed the same and finally the garage.
I wanted a painted garage. Chris Jr said it was not necessary as they tape, sand and prime (white) the garage walls. To paint would be a waste of money. He was right.
During the construction, the electrician suggested more than the 4 outlets spec’ed in the garage. I said use your best judgment. He installed 9 outlets and he was on the money. I put up self standing shelving units and if I cover an outlet who cares, there is another one nearby!
I wanted heat and air in the garage. HVAC tech suggested a mini-split heat/ac unit. Best money I ever spent! The garage could literally be another 500 sq/ft room in the house. It is insulated and almost airtight. Concrete floor is beautiful. My wife loves driving into the air conditioned garage and unloading into the house directly.
In conclusion,
My wife and I could not be happier with our house. It has exceeded our expectations. CGM Construction is a 1st class operation and will build you a !st class house!
CGM Construction replaced our windows and sliding glass door. Nate Dickinson, the Project Manager, was so helpful from the start and planning of our project to the completion. His crew was so professional and experienced. Their work was excellent as though they were working on their own home. We are so satisfied with the windows and the completed project. HIghly recommend Nate and his CGM Construction.
CGM is a top notch family owned business. They give you undivided attention from the beginning of the project to the end and take the stress out of building a home. Always available to answer my numerous questions and help with the many decisions I had to make. They bring knowledge to the table and expert advice. Their main goal was to make sure we were 110% happy with our forever home and we could not have been more pleased. An absolute joy to work with and always felt confident I was getting the best! Highly recommend!!!!
