I had dinner with friends and my favorite aspect was the ambiance. The Christmas decorations and live piano music were fantastic. All menu items sounded good but due to dietary needs for healthy eating, I chose the special red grouper. I 😘 ved the spinach layered over the unique rice mixture with baby field peas. The tomato sauce was good but a little overpowering for my taste. Luckily it was in a beautiful display on the side so I was able to use just a little bit with the rice and spinach. The service was 5 stars!
Kudos and special thanks to Amina and Anna at the front desk for being so hospitable and friendly, really felt welcome here. Housekeeping did a great job although there were some difference in the bath mat and the body wash gel that I received on day 3 were different from day 1 and 2, was also kinda disappointed the room did include a dental and shaving kit. The room heater was kinda tricky too as the temperature keeps reducing throughout the night and the heat was reducing when I really needed it. All in all nothing major but just wanted to share these observations.
Nice hotel beautiful grounds. Welcoming staff and southern manners and service. Well appointed room /suite and with nice insight bar and restaurant.
Only complaint would be the soaps in my room were wretched smelling of lilac. On my last day without asking another neutral soap set was in the room. Wish I had known of that options a few days earlier. Put them Both in the room. Or ditch the lilac.
I’m blown away by the hospitality at this unique hotel. Everyone from the concierge, to the people running check in, to the wonderful restaurant team and beyond is so incredibly hard working and warm hearted.
Some notable things: The check in process literally took 45 seconds. The hotel has so much character and history. Everything is sparkling clean. There’s plenty of parking. The pool and restaurant are open until 10pm. (Restaurant technically open until 11 for lounging) The food in the restaurant is SO GOOD. We came in for dinner wearing pajama shorts and baseball jerseys, yet the restaurant team was nonetheless welcoming and courteous. They even changed the tv in the lounge to the baseball game we were watching. We went for a swim in the indoor pool, and a gentleman came in about halfway through our swim and dropped off a load of warm towels. We felt so welcomed by all of the extra touches that this hardworking team of people put together. Whether you are just traveling through, playing golf, or visiting Duke, this is THE place to stay in Durham. This will be such a treasured memory on our road trip. Thank you to everyone here for making our stay so memorable!
