Absolutely love UNC Peds at Southpoint! Their extended hours are incredible for working parents, plus their weekend hours are great when kiddos always seem to get sick after most doctors close. Numerous times I’ve called to get advice or to get our baby checked out and I’ve always spoken to a doctor virtually or gotten an in-office appointment for that same day. It brings so much peace of mind knowing expert advice is readily accessible. Each doctor has been kind and knowledgeable as well!
I cannot say enough wonderful things about this practice. We love all the physicians, but have primarily seen Dr. Kavanaugh. She is kind, thorough, patient and reassuring! I am most impressed with the convenient hours they have. I have gotten in same-day for sick visits every time I needed to, usually in the evening. And Saturday hours?! I have not experienced long wait times. Unfortunately, sometimes a doctor gets tied up with a patient who needs their time. You would hope they would spend that extra time with you if you needed it.
The UNC Ped's new office is simply beautiful. Our old pediatrician's office was a family practice and nothing about it was child friendly.
This office is such a stark difference and total breath of fresh air! Bright colors are everywhere. Big windows let in loads of sunlight. The nurses and administrative staff are friendly and welcoming, all of them obviously happy to work with both parents and children.
The office is so clearly set up for kids. It sounds silly, but until you've used a non-pediatrics office for your pediatrician, the little things can get lost. UNC Pediatrics provides wipes and diapers at the scales for the inevitable accidents that happen during well-baby checks. Scales double as measuring tools so babies aren't moved again and again. Nurses and doctors move quickly, appreciating and understanding that parents are on a schedule and that babies and kids are funny in their own ways! The level of kindness and patience with everyone here is wonderful.
I cannot recommend this pediatrics office highly enough.
We love Dr Pickens! He is great with our son and I really appreciate his approach to care. We tend to always have issues with the billing end of things (we pay cash) and usually have to make a few calls about every bill but they usually get everything resolved quickly. But worth having a doctor we trust with our son's care.
They are by far the best PEDs in Durham. The staff are always so helpful and friendly. My children see Dr.Kwee who is obviously in love with his line of work. He has always gone above and beyond to make my children feel comfortable. He does not mind getting down and dirty or being completely silly with them. They are super flexible with hours and there are never long waits, always in and out. They are super convenient and have even scheduled multiple children treatments in one appointment.
