(May 13, 2022, 10:56 pm)4 6-gallon "Keepsake" mountain laurels arrived in stunningly good condition, considering they spent 5 days being thrown around by UPS (aka Usually Pulverizes Shipment). The driver launched them onto my porch sideways, boxes looking pretty beat up, but only one plant had a little sprig that had broken off.
I followed the instructions on the LotsofPlants website to prepare my alkaline (7.5pH) soil. I scraped off and saved my topsoil and dug a a deep trench out of the hard clay below, replaced it with topsoil and pine bark conditioner, and mixed in 4lb of sulfur a month ahead of time to try to get the acidic conditions they like and to give them a place to grow to that's not clay. After planting, I watered them, gave them a tablespoon of slow-release rhododendron food, and then covered with several inches of pine bark mulch. The location pictured gets only a few hours of evening light per day, so hopefully they do well here!
My one complaint, and you'll notice this in a lot of reviews, is that the root ball is not very big on these plants. I've included a picture for reference: there's a lot more soil in these pots than there is plant. I guess it's fine since the plants look healthy enough, but my expectation would have been that a six-gallon plant would have had a somewhat larger root ball.
If you want that hard-to-find plant that your local nursery doesn't sell, go for it. Lots Of Plants ships a decent plant. Realistically, though, if you can source what you want locally, you should probably do that instead. It'll definitely be cheaper, and you might get a bigger plant too.
(May 8, 2022, 9:48 am)I ordered 4 of the White Perfection Heather because when i bought all that this one place had (13), I needed 4 more to complete my flower garden. I searched everywhere around me and no one had any more so I had to order them. They arrived in very good condition and the soil around them was still moist (not dry). I live in Alabama and these shipped from Oregon. I am pleased with these plants and I would not hesitate to order from LotsOfPlants again.
(April 24, 2022, 5:37 pm)I received the order much faster than anticipated. The Mountain Laurel was packaged well and much taller and bushier than I expected. I watered it and planted it a few days after arrival. It has not only sprouted a lot of new growth, there is even a clump of buds visible in the lower center of the photo. We were pleasantly surprised by that!
I would order again in a heartbeat!
(March 19, 2022, 8:55 am)I ordered three different rhododendrons. They arrived in beautiful condition covered with buds. My problem is that only one of them was identified with a tag. I had no way of knowing the species of the other two plants. I called the company and no one answered or bothered to return my call. I found this to be very frustrating as I had to guess the identification of the plants when I set them in the ground. Very poor communication with the company.
(March 5, 2022, 9:55 pm)My Lemon Glow Camellia Japonica came with many buds and blooms. It was packed well. At first I planted it in the shade. The blooms did not look well, with dark spots. I moved it to filtered sun and the blooms look much better. It’s a beautiful tree and it was worth getting a 3 gallon tree. I ordered another Camellia from Lots of Plants because this tree is perfect.
