Josh is the most amazing dance instructor ever. To teach two people with left feet to pull off a first dance was a miracle! We even had a lift, and we actually nailed it! Not only all of that but he was sooo nice even when we were distracted or failing miserably at new steps. We hope to take more classes with him! Our first dance was conquered but there are many more dances to come!
Dance Manor is a fantastic place to learn and expand your dancing in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky! Josh Tilford is extremely generous with his vast knowledge of dance technique... plus he's tons of fun!
I started dancing in July, 2012. A dear friend and neighbor gave me a Groupon. That first day, that first lesson, changed my life. I have taken lessons from several professionals, each with different strengths. Utilizing all of that information as building blocks has allowed me to continue to grow and develop my own strengths. I met Josh through his wife, Stacey, whom I knew from another studio. Josh had been teaching in Columbus full time and was transitioning to begin his dance practice in Cincinnati. I was restless. I continued to take private lessons several times a week to continue to develop my dancing skills. I love dancing and I was working hard to continue to improve. In my heart, something was still missing. I was working hard, I was learning, but, I wasn’t filled with the passion that I had early on. Private lessons are an investment. I needed more of a return for my investment. So, I asked Stacey for Josh’s number. That was in April of 2015. I won’t tell you how long I held onto that number before I made that phone call. My first conversation with Josh lasted almost an hour. It was clear to me from the beginning that if he was going to take me on as a student, he wanted to know more about me. He clearly was trying to find out if I was serious about dance. We discussed my goals, expectations of myself and of him. The next step, he wanted to “audition” me. That’s when I knew, that this was going to be a different type of dance relationship than I had had in the past. So, audition I did. That sounds pretty ominous for an amateur dancer. We just danced. Different dances, different tempo, lead and follow. Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, Viennese Waltz, Cha-cha, Rumba, Swing and Bolero. We did them all. I felt a little bit like a race horse being put through their paces. But the most important thing about that “audition” was that all I felt was joy. I just danced, and danced, and danced some more. When we finished, Josh became very pensive. Then, he said “It would be my pleasure to teach you” and with that I became his first student in Cincinnati. A year later, we are still dancing. I am still learning and asking more questions than ever. He will tell you that I am the analytical one. My questions energize him rather than aggravate him. Dance is a serious part of my life. My passion has returned and my heart remains filled with joy when I dance. Thank you for helping me find myself again.
