“I came here with my son to make Ishraaq. Some students were entering and we went in with them since a code is required for entry and we didn’t have a code. No protest was made against our entry. We made wudhu in one of the men’s rooms. The bathroom was not in the best condition as I had to really clean the toilet before use. That’s not unexpected when you are in a place with a good number of students so that didn’t bother me too much. My son and I were able to pray ishraaq without being bothered. That’s significant because, as black American Muslims, we are often viewed suspiciously in some communities. Upon exiting we had a bit of difficulty opening the door but with some force we were able to leave. It was a nice experience.”
