I go birding here fairly regularly. This is a nice wildlife area with forest, prairie and a few marshes, but it's primarily managed for hunting. The trails are not mowed during the breeding season, so the grass becomes quite tall and hard to walk through. I'm excited that the ODNR has purchased the rest of the scout reservation, there's lots more to explore. Overall its a nice area, I just wish there was better access for the average hiker or birder.
Won controlled hunt. Decent trails mowed in. Saw a handful of deer just couldnt seal the deal. Lots of shots nearby. Hopefully get to go back in the future.
Some years are better than others, game wise, but I really enjoy hunting here. This is actually my second favorite place to hunt but it's closer than my favorite.
Woodland Trails Wildlife Area consists of tallgrass prairie, beech-maple forest, oak-hickory forest, and cedar groves. It's about 715 acres in size. Busy during hunting season.
In my opinion the honeysuckle problem isn't near as bad here as it is at Rush Run Wildlife Area, which makes trekking through the woods easier.
