I've owned an AJC hatchet since I was 15 years old and am now 56. I've been a roofing contractor since 1979 and I'll tell you, anyone that doesn't have an AJC hatchet, or a slew of different ones for different needs in hammering strength, is not really a roofer. Some strangers with a nail gun may color a roof quickly with shingles but they'll blow off and leak. Hand nailing these thin asphalt shingles of today is the only way. Seriously, professionals only hand nail. A nail gun nail is going up to 952 mph. Momentum counter sinks the nail. It is not over driven. A roofing hatchet only drives a nail flush.
Plus they make a whole line of stuff for roofers like nail strippers, magnets on wheels and other stuff only a roofer, or a grandparent with nails in the yard, could love.
