I went to this place to seek assistance in anxiety and stress relief. Now obviously one trip is not going to solve any issues I am trying to work through, however I believe this place can help. I went to the intro class and we talked about Buddha and the history. We were then taken back to the meditation area, were we were shown how to properly enter, sit and meditate. It was really nice to go somewhere and have a professional show you proper mindfulness techniques, then watch it on a video or read it from a book. To the point I would suggest this place to anyone interested in Buddhism, Mindfulness, spirituality, or just trying to help relieve stress and anxiety. Everyone is very professional and qualified. Five stars for me.
If you're curious about Zen, meditation, or mindfulness, this is the place to be.
Newcomers are always welcome and there's basic instruction on the first Sunday of the month.
I did a retreat at this very welcoming zen meditation center. Kotoku, the resident zen priest offers authentic instruction for newcomers, and offers zazen meditation and temple instruction. Also Kotoku has a great sense of humor and will answer questions on the history and practice of zen in America. Colleen, his wife who is also a lay teacher, will introduce you to zen practices with a warm welcome and tea. The center is in a farmhouse, sitting on top of the hill with great views. The temple, library, and grounds are a great place to experience peace and stillness.
I have only been able to visit the zen center a few times, but I have enjoyed each visit very much. The priest and his wife are very friendly and the members are very welcoming. The whole center is very friendly and has a pleasant atmosphere. The building and surrounding land are both simple and beautiful. I wish I was able to visit more often than just a few times in the past few years.
Very welcoming and a great diverse group of people. The head monk does a great job of bringing Soto Zen to the forefront during retreats, Sunday sessions, etc... I recommend anyone interested in religion, philosophy, etc come and visit. Donations are welcome but not required. Introductions to meditation are generally every Sunday at 8:30. If you stay for the whole event, lunch is served at 12! Always a delight as the Sangha brings lots of delicious food.
