Allegheny Islands State Park

Address: Cheswick, PA 15024, USA

Park

“So why should we care about Allegheny State Park? Well, it holds the supports for the PA Turnpike and the Bessemer Railroad Bridge. (See first picture from the Turnpike bridge and a second picture showing supports from the ground level). Also, if you like exploring really undeveloped land, this is your place. Flooding frequently and having no marked trails, it's a true wilderness experience. Since access is only by watercrafts, it's good to know there's a public boat launch at Deer Creek Park. However, there is no boat rental at the park. For events at this park visit: events dcnr pa For more information: pa parks and forests (diamond)”

Dead Man's Hollow Conservation Area

Address: 600 Scene Ridge Rd, McKeesport, PA 15133, USA

Park

“Sad to see all the negative reviews that have nothing to do with this place or are a result of people not knowing what they are doing. That said, I can only speak for the trailhead on Calhoun Rd. It looks like it may have been updated recently with a new map. It's easy to understand. Also, it seems that trail markers have been updated recently as they are extremely visible and useful. There are still trees down but I can tell someone has been working on that. These trails are a great change from going to South Park all the time. And what a view.”

McLaughlin Run Park

Address: McLaughlin Run Rd, Bridgeville, PA 15017, USA

Park

“I hesitate to rate this park 5 stars because I want it all for myself! I've been going to this park since 2010 when I moved into the area and it's my favorite local park. I even had my 30th birthday celebration here. Sand volleyball court is great (have had many pickup games here) and the new pavilions are awesome. Waterfall is a very cool feature. Very cool skate park. Also love that the parking lot is paved now! I am always so impressed this little park exists when I go, and I'm so glad it was built back up so nicely after the 2019/2020 flooding.”

Montour Woods Conservation Area

Address: 1875 Hassam Rd, Coraopolis, PA 15108, USA

Park

“Beautiful fall hike on Meeks Run trail. Roughly 2 miles from start to finish. Easy hike, not many hills at all. To minimize exposure to mud, a wooden walkway was built with nonslip mesh. I was thankful for this as there were a few muddy spots so without the walkway it would have been a lot less enjoyable in spots.”

Pittsburgh Botanic Garden

Address: 799 Pinkerton Run Rd, Pittsburgh, PA 15071, USA

Park Museum

“I've visited in the fall and for the amazing winter light show just this season. I absolutely love what this place has to offer. It's so important to educate our young humans to care about nature and native species and the botanic garden is definitely doing that. As for the light show... holy mother of pearl was it so beautiful!!! I could have stayed forever if not for worrying about my feet freezing off ♡ will definitely return in the spring and summer ♡”

Eliza Fox Trail Park

Address: 401 Fox Chapel Rd, Pittsburgh, PA 15238, USA

“Great trail for off leash. Must have FOX Chapel Borough sticker to park on old mill rd. No sticker, no problem. Park at Beachwood Farms and access trail from top.”

Universal Park

Address: 1 Memorial Park Ln, Penn Hills, PA 15235, USA

Park

“Stopped by here to give my Grandkids a small treat. The winter weather broke it was a Spring like day. Well the park itself was closed for the normal season. However there were a few neighborhood people out walking dogs, jogging, walking. A few kids playing basketball. And we enjoyed ourselves very much. This place is Hugh. Enough space for everybody to spend out even before Covid. Very Very Nice.”

Avonworth Community Park

Address: 498 Camp Horne Rd, Pittsburgh, PA 15237, USA

Park

“Wonderful community park with plenty of amenities. Really unique old school wooden playground and a great small town style swimming pool. Bathrooms are generally clean for a public park and the pavilions are available for rent for a birthday party or for other activities. Be warned this park is extremely popular especially in the summer with summercamp programs etc.”

Ted Bartlett Memorial Field

Address: Ross Park Mall Dr, Pittsburgh, PA 15237, USA

Park

“Ted Bartlett Field has made great improvements since my previous trips there. There are many bleachers, and many places to place your chair around the field. The food stand offers shade, if you get there early enough to get a seat at the picnic tables. If not, the trees past the outfield also have shade, just bring a chair. The lights allow for cooler evening games. If you want/need, the mall is also there for food and shopping between games. My favorite part is the view. Everyone can see the entire field by sitting on the hill above the game. Great improvements!”
