“My 11y old went for first time & really liked it. Her bff did not, but camps not for everyone. Almost all of their cabin left before/after patches so they couldnt do skit they'd practiced so we ended up leaving before campfire. I wonder if they shift a half hour earlier if more kids would stay longer that friday nite? One other minus - there was a sand volleyball court but no ball all week! The Carlisle YMCA couldnt manage extra volleyballs?!? That didnt make any sense.”

“A truly wonderful trail. Go in the cooler months to minimize the risk of snakes and get a less obstructed view. Long way to the overlook- from the trail head go right over the stream along the Appalachian trail (white blaze) and turn onto the blue blazes - should be a sign. It is definitely easier and less steep but will take a few hours. Short way- stay left at the trail head and follow sign and blue blazes. It is very short and very steep. Will take about 30 min.”

“We loved the Pine Creek Furnace State Park. Among the many amenities was the Appalachian Trail Museum. It was comprised of two stories of displays, one geared to the history of the trail and the pioneers who helped develop it and the other was a kids museum with facts about each state, a reading area, and a nightime display with animal sounds. It didn't take long to go through, but it was very educational and well done. Take a book home from the gift shop to learn more about the founders, animals or the trail outposts.”

“Stopped for a bite to eat touring through Pine Grove Forest. Had a great burger there. Huge burger for price with cheese, onion ring, bbq sauce, lettuce and tomato. Hand cut fries were delish too! Highly recommend.”

“Loved my stay here while hiking the Appalachian trail. A real piece of history, they have an underground railroad (or Haven) for runaway slaves used during the American Civil War. It's a lovely peaceful place, with a massive porch for relaxing and drinking coffee in the early Misty morning hours as the dawn is breaking.”

“Great trails and comfortable beach area by the lake. Pole Steeple can be a little bit of an incline but the views are beautiful. You can also bring your dog which is a bonus.”

“Very easy to deal with. Booked online and when you get there you don't have to check in, just go straight to your campsite. My only bugaboo about this place is that you are essentially camping with everyone else as well. Every site is basically on top of the other... typical state park though I guess.”

“Narrow roads in and out of the campground. The sites are gravel, reasonably level, and private. I had virtually no Verizon cell service. Nonetheless, I think it's a terrific campground. It's about 35 minutes from Gettysburg, and that made it worth the trip alone. The general store has GREAT burgers and it's fun to see the AT hikers on their way through. I ate a gallon of ice cream in their honor, albeit over a five day period and not in one sitting. I never visited the two lakes, but my neighbors raved about both. The campground host is very nice and very helpful. Firewood is $5. One last note: The Thirsty Farmer Brew Works is worth the 25 minute drive from the campground (if you are a beer nerd).”

“Plenty of wide open space up at the top of the mountain. It's a very short walk from the pull-off from the gravel road, but it's far enough that you definitely can't see the road from the site.”
