Hiked North on the AT through here. Started at the state park and went to PA rte 183. Rocky hiking on the ridge. Some nice shelters, especially at 501. Only a few great lookouts in this area, mostly looking at your feet to avoid breaking an ankle, or a lot of trees.
Nice 2 mile hike on the Appalachian trail from Rt 501 to Rt 645 with 2 beautiful overlooks. Right now one of the only sections around that area that is not overly muddy from all the recent rains.
A fun little hike... Once you get past the mound of trash at the beginning of the trail! Yuck. But after that the short hike is easy, if a bit rocky, picturesque and the waterfall at the end a definite reward. Plus my husband and I were lucky to see two very curious & adorable baby foxes! (The trash made it 3 star but the foxed bumped it back up to 5!)
Great place to hike. Main trail is simple and mostly flat. A few trails that go off the main are pretty rough. This is my first time here but I will be coming back to explore more trails. The trails I did that go off to the left end into private property. But still worth exploring. The ones that go right off the main trail are the rougher ones. Well enjoy your hike if you go. I know you will.
Actually visited Camp Swatara. A great family camp and summer camp for kids. Is affiliated with the Church of the Brethren. Ministers to people so they can be recharged and minister to others in the name of Christ. Great hiking on the Blue Mountain. There is access to the Appalachian Trail. Just a great place to fellowship.
