I went to the Four Way for lunch; it's a historic African American restaurant, and I had a catfish dinner with black eyed peas, greens. It was all fantastic, just like Mama used to make. Our wait person was delightful; she helped us make our choices and managed to keep up with our needs without being intrusive. I recommend this place highly, as long as you actually like southern cooking.
GREAT customer service entering the restaurant. Food was good went during Memphis Black restaurant week and limited menu. Would go back again and try the full menu. Was happy that food was not over salted. Only reason for 4 starts instead of 5 is only have one check out register it was moving but during a busy lunch hour two should be at least avaliable. Great customer service and greeting.
A co worker of mine talked very highly of this place for soul food and so I decided to try it. Upon walking in the atmosphere was very open and welcoming. A gentleman offered a warm greeting and said to make sure to let them know when I was ready to place my to go order. He also uttered to the woman at the register something similar. Being my first time I asked the young lady behind the register a few questions. Although younger in age (maybe 20s) she was very professional and polite. We discussed a few things and she gave me a fee suggestions (mainly getting 4 veggie plate instead of 3). This turned out to be good information. I ordered cabbage, green beans, and 2 premium sides: mac and cheese and dressing. My greed would take over so I also ordered a piece of strawberry cake. The inside experience was great. Now to the food. The food was quite tasty. No bite was disappointing. I love soul food and this did stack up to be pretty good. Mac and cheese was REAL, dressing moist and flavorful and those green beans delicious and seasoned just right. The cabbage and my corn muffin were tasty as well. After eating I had room to try my cake (the portions, outside of the cabbage, were literally a cafeteria serving size) That part was a little disappointing but not too major. Now to the big disappointment. The cake was dry and packy and the taste was mediocre at best. I ended up tossing most of it. I am guessing it may have been a day or so old and had lost some of its quality (or at least that is my hope). Outside of the portion size and cake = 4 stars, it was a good experience. I will give the cake another try when I do visit again
Great food and service too! We had the catfish and it was amazingly good! Follow it up with the sweet potato pie and you've hit a home run!
I would have given them a 5 for the great chicken, green beans and good mac & cheese and sweet potato pie but when I went with 3 other people, my food literally came 20-30 minutes later and the sides weren't hot. I just took the whole meal to go. No explanation for the extreme delay.
The soul food here is legendary. The menu varies by the day, but catfish is the house favorite. Martin Luther King Jr. ordered it every time he came in! Located just down the street from Graceland, this spot has an extra dose of Southern soul.
