“I have been here 6 years and I love this clinic. It has helped me so much in my recovery. They charge based on income so for me since I'm low income its free. This is one of 3 clinics in San Antonio who charge like this. Others charge 11 to 20 dollars a day! I love that they have programs for the mommy's and they have a free primary care clinic for us. The staff is great except their are 2 individuals that are just very rude to clients. I am a very nice individual and I am very respectful even if I have someone who is not so nice to me. I find that the lady at the front financial desk is so very rude to clients in the 6 years I have been there. She treats people very rude, me being one of them. I have never treated her with disrespect. She one day had 3 people in line and another staff member asked her can I help you with one of the clients and their paperwork. She said "No they can stand there and wait". It made me feel like I was no one. When your at a doctors office you treat a patient with respect and you be courteous and you do your job efficiently and in a timely manner to get them in and out. She completely disregards clients and their feelings. I have heard her speak very unkind to clients as well. It is very sad. Another person who is disrespectful and does not seem to want to be there at all is a dosing nurse. I don't know her name because I have only been to her window so much over the 6 years. She sits at the middle window and I have seen and heard her be so very mean to clients. I asked her one time if a certain medication interferes with methadone. She shrugged her shoulders and said I don't know! I believe dosing nurses should know these things. Any nurse or doctor who works at a methadone clinic should know what interferes with methadone, how other medications interact with methadone, what you should and should not take with it. If they don't know by heart thry should have a list they can check. Beside those 2 women, the other staff are very respectful, nice, and doesn't treat us like we're just addicts. They actually care about our recovery and us as people not just people who were addicts. I have had great experiences at this clinic except when in front those 2 women. There are a few things I like to see change....the dosing hours extended to 2pm, the takehomes given on a case by case basis and extended to 2 weeks for those who have worked hard to stay sober and get clean UA's and are model clients, i would like to see them take away rapid detox of the methadone because it is very dangerous for any individual on methadone and instead come up with a better detox plan that isn't so fast. I would like to see multiple back up plans put in place incase of computer shut downs, extreme weather, or emergencies. I would also like to see all the staff especially the dosing nurses and doctors go through methadone training where they learn what interacts with methadone, what is good and not good to take with it, how methadone affects the body with certain diagnosis like hypothyroidism, diabetes, cancer and so on, how extreme heat and physical activity interferes with the dose levels in our body. How to do a peak and through test for clients, how methadone affects pregnant women, and anything else that can help them understand symptoms clients have on methadone and without methadone. I also think it would be good for them to learn the withdrawals of methadone and how severe they can be especially when you decrease and detox off of methadone too fast. Despite everything I wish they would change I am grateful for the things they have changed so far. They have done a great job cleaning up the clinic and kicking those out who abuse methadone, who sell their methadone, who aren't on methadone for the right reasons, who use methadone as a drug to get high off, and who deals and buys drugs and pills in front of the cclinic Ihated seeing that especially when trying to get sober.”

“I want to thank I Care San Antonio for hosting the Icare4kids event 10/19/2019. I used to have good health benefits/vision benefits and just recently lost all my insurance due to a job change. I wasn't going to be able to get vision insurance until Nov 1st 2019. I had heard about the event from my daughters school and made an appointment right away. I was there along with 100 other families that day. The staff and volunteers were all so kind and helpful. They took their time to make sure each and every child was screened and fitted for glasses. They were all organized and made the event very fun. I appreciate this event and recommend this place if you ever need assistance with eyeglasses or a vision exam.”
