After some initial confusion Re: post op instructions I received a call from Dr Rhodes and my concerns/questions were immediately addressed. His detailed explanation as to what was done during the operations made perfect sense. I'm hoping my knee will be back to normal after a few months or so. Thanks for the call Dr. Rhodes
Caring and helpful professional. Was able to send me to the right hip specialist who understood my problem. Finally had answers to what was causing my pain after 6 years and many doctors.
Dr. Rhodes is among the best knee surgeons in Texas, so of course he is busy, but he has very competent PA and other medical assistants. He had performed thousands of knee surgeries, including Navy Seals and paratroopers. He works in the best hospitals with the best equipment available. He is personable and concerned about his patients and they usually consider him a friend.
Dr. Rhodes was a wonderful doctor. I was originally going through the VA for my service connected hip. Since the VA did not have a hip specialist, he accepted the case for them. He was very nice and answered my questions and concerns clearly. When I brought up other possible options, he was nice to explain why they were not viable for this situation. He also found problems in my knee from the VA MRI that I've been complaining about for years and the VA said nothing was wrong. I didn't bring up the knee, he did, so it was not prodding.
He performed the surgery and found a bone spur that was not shown on the MRI that was causing the labral tear that did. I've had a previous surgery on that hip for labral resections and have had pain in it since discharge. This is the first time in 14 years that I can walk somewhat without pain and my cane (though bad limp). Now the goal is to get that range of motion back and strength that I lost over the years. That will be the challenge since I have to go through the VA for PT. He is definitely doing that knee and also my shoulder that the VA has messed up because I no longer trust them and have been looking outside for over a year. 4 surgeries and nothing but getting worst each time. I have confidence that he can fix them and if not, at least make them pain free to tolerable and functional, in essence, better than now.
