I tried Coopers for the first time and had a great experience. The brisket was excellent as was the sausage. I also had a baked potato which was very good. Beans, pickles, onions and jalapenos are included. The BBQ sauce is different so try a sample before pouring over your brisket. I am sure I will stop for lunch when back in town.
I don't hand out a lot of 5 Star ratings so when I do it's something special... If there was ever a time to have something to add to your bucket list and cross off on the same day, this was it! All I can say is WOW! What an experience for a true pit Texas BBQ. Everything was fantastic from the Brisket to the beef ribs that are falling off the bone tender. If you leave hungry it's your own fault for sure.
Great BBQ! Cooper's always delivers! The sausage and brisket were delicious. They were out of chicken, but the wife enjoyed her pork ribs. They weren't sweet like mine, but she said they were still good.
The meat was great, the sides not so much. A BBQ place has to remember that the sides are just as important as the meats themselves. A really good cobbler (the cobbler was great though) can leave a lasting impression almost as well a good piece of meat. If the meats hadn't been so good then I would have probably rated them an average score. The atmosphere was also very nice for a country BBQ spot even though it was kinda in the city but I got the country feel to it so that adds to the pleasure. Now for my general rant about the current state of the eating out experience. First, I could have had two steak dinners for the price I paid for this BBQ (and many others). BBQ should not be so expensive. If I have to choose (and these BBQ places are forcing me to now) between overpriced BBQ and a steak at a sit down restaurant for much less then I am going with the steak 9.5 times out of 10. FInally, why the heck does a cafeteria style eatery ask me for a tip? A tip is a gratuity to the server and table support staff for a job well done. If I am going to the counter to order my food, get my own food, get my own drinks and bus my own table why would I leave a tip. I don't tip at fast food places and they have the exact same setup. Leaving tips at places like these is a type of insult to waitstaff who work very hard for their tips.
Really enjoyed my stop at Cooper's. The brisket and pork ribs were delicious. When it comes to the side dishes, the jalapeño bacon mac and cheese was awesome, and the roasted corn was great. The only reason I didn't give Cooper's 5 stars was the price. Granted I got more food than any one person should eat, but my total went to $60 with very little effort. Still, I highly recommend a stop at Cooper's. Just be mindful of how fast things add up.
