I went into this program a lost, lonely, heavily addicted to love, pain, and mind altering substances. With the help of the treatment I received in the dual diagnosis cottage. I learned to love myself, the Dr. here got me on the right meds. I have almost been clean two years now. (2/22/2017 is my clean date). Which I would not give up for the life of me. This place is a great cacoon for and young lady to sprout it's wings. The food is the worse part by far but, loosing weight wasn't a problem for me. I managed by eating very little. But, the things the staff in bedded in my mind really stuck with me. Yes, Ms. Lee was tough but, like they say iron sharpens iron. Ms. Young and Ms. Melissa was great. I had tree failed attempts at homeward bound but the things I learned there the last time and here at Wilmer really stuck with me. I really believe I wouldn't be the prodective member I am in society today without this program, homeward bound, and Nexus. I think I needed all three to be successful in my life. Anyways I just wanted to put my two cents in. Thanks.
This place is truly Exceptional. Clients make a commitment to the judicial system to seek treatment as opposed to going to TDCJ to complete a substance abuse program of the substance that enabled them to commit their crimes.
And once they get there they don't take the treatment or their recovery seriously. Most don't follow the rules and are disrespectful to their peers that's there clinical or facility staff as well as themselves and wants to blame others.
Its tuff for all staff with that type of behavior from the clients. Most commit to come just to avoid the TDCJ (Prison)time and take the program as a joke. Recovery is serious and what you put into it and the return you get after completion to reduce recidivism and to rebuild lives of yourself and your family and the community of which one lives.
Someone cares.
