That probably sounds a bit weird, but this is a place where broken people get put back together. I know this.... Because I am one of them. I spent 30 something years as an atheist, who was raised up without God in our home. I never knew how much he loved me until I walked in those doors. I never realized what true faith even felt like, until I attended Austin First Church. Plus, the free coffee alone is enough to make any hardworking single mom rejoice! Yet, the sermons, and the members are the real treasure there. Those people have overcome so many of the same battles I have faced, and am still facing in my life. These wonderful folks have taught me not only how to be a better person, but how to be the kind of Christian that Jesus would approve of himself. I went from being a holy terror, to being filled with the Holy Ghost. I learned to let go of the earth, and grab God's hand instead. He leads me back, every single service, and I am so grateful I trust him to do so...because attending is not only healing me, but healing my family as well. I may not know your struggle, or your current situation, but I do know that if you are reading this, then you must want something different right? Trust me... This place is different... in all the best ways possible. 🙂 So, when you are ready, it will be here for you, if you can just give it a chance. Take the time to prove me right, or wrong? Either way... “Will always love St. Mary Magdalene's! It was my church for too short a time, but while there, the community was one I hadn't experienced for almost twenty years. Being there reminded me of another diverse congregation I was blessed to be a part of when first beginning my faith journey and I hated leaving. SMM has a wonderful pastor in Fr. Montes-Vela (his bilingual sermon deliveries are unforgettable); a graceful and gracious leading lady in Mrs. Montes-Vela; members with a sincerely welcoming and sustaining nature which is not easy to find; studies that are theological yet down to earth; a zeal for community care; amazing music, that's both calming and joyous, and last but not least great fellowship with good food to match. I miss them so much and hope to be able to visit them again when COVID-19 restrictions as well as my own church obligations ease up and I can fully participate in the worship without a pressing care in the world. Love and miss you SMM, keep up the inspiring work!”

“My favorite movie theater in Austin (besides Paramount). Why? Because it’s clean. Thank you, whoever is in charge of that! I really appreciate the attention to detail here. The design is also Art Deco and stunning. They keep the a/c running at a comfortable, cool temperature during the hot months, the bulbs on the projectors are bright, the beer taps are cold and the seats are comfortable even though it’s not stadium recliners. My only beef is that a couple of years ago, Regal went Pepsi exclusive and now you can’t get anything resembling Dr. Pepper like Mr. Pibb which is the ONLY cola flavor to pair with red licorice.”
