Well maintained old cemetery. Large old cedar trees survived the drought and shade the gravestones with coolness. An old tree with orchid like flowers has covered the grounds with brightly colored petals. Just beautiful!!!
My family from my Dad’s side is buried out there. All the way to 5 generations.
My husbands fathers side of the family is buried there and their graves date back to the 1800’s. I love sending time down there, it’s a beautiful place out in the country.
The Old Salem Cemetery, Hempstead, Texas.
As I walked through this cemetery, I approached the grave of a young Iraq War veteran. Most of the time, as I document these great soldiers, I can keep my composure. But this time, it was different. His family has memorialized this young warrior with a shrine that includes his picture. As I looked upon this young man’s likeness, it took me back to when I wore the O.D. green jungle fatigues, in Vietnam. Seeing a soldier in uniform is so much more powerful than just a headstone. I was so moved, that I found myself standing at attention and saluting this brave hero. Thank you for your bravery and your service.
My dad and my son are buried there. Nice, beautiful country feeling. Pleasant atmosphere.
