  My boyfriend and I had a wonderful experience having dinner at Lorraine's while we were spending the weekend on Tangier Island. We tried the Tangier Island Hot Crab Dip, the Cream of Crab soup, and the Crab Cake and Softshell Crab combo. All were delicious. The big hit of the night was the softshell crab. It was cooked just right. We had a very friendly young server who didn't mind answering our questions about the island life.

  A great choice to eat in the island
  
  We walked in a rainy and windy Friday night.
  Not too many people arrived in the island with us.
  We sat ourselves and awkwardly waited what seemed a long while for someone to acknowledge us.
  
  Once our waitress noticed us, things got better quickly.
  
  I ordered the crab cake platter and my wife the fish and chips.
  They were very accommodating to my children and made a custom pizza for them.
  
  The crab cakes we're delicious, but I feel a bit overpriced for what I received.
  
  My wife had one deep fried and battered cod fillet and actual chips (not the usual fries included in this type of dish) granted, they were freshly made potato chips.
  
  We felt the the price was a big high for what we got.

  Visited as part of a larger group and stopped in for lunch. I had the crab crab sandwich with crab soup. The soup was a bit bland for my liking (there was Old Bay sprinkled on top, but that have it an inconsistent taste). The crab cake stole the show, though. It wasn't a thin patty, but a nice, thick morsel. It was served with wavy chips which I was indifferent to (fries probably would have been better).
  
  The dining area is a bit small, and they quickly filled for lunch. This made it rather loud and busy. But the staff did their best to remain attentive to all the groups.

  What a great place to stop for a local taste when you're on Tangiers Island. This is good down-home home cooking with excellent local seafood, particularly crab of course and excellent hospitality.

  Stopped here yesterday (Friday August 24) and for awhile was the only customer. Not that this says anything bad about this place, as I came alone on my boat and all the tourists had left well past this time, but it definitely showed a sense of "small town" appeal. There was a waitress who took my order, and an older lady who was doing most of the cooking (I wonder if she was Lorraine?). Both came to my table several times, so it was more of a community effort to serve me instead of one waitress; I kind of liked it. Very hospitable people and pleasant to speak with. The soda was all canned, but was affordable, so I ordered several. I ordered fried clams and a burger. They are known for seafood, so I cannot speak for that, but the burger was pretty good. The clams were good, but very similar to every other fried clam I've ordered at any other place. The location was clean and pleasant. It is what it is for a small island like this. They do accept debit/ credit cards, something not offered on much of the island. I will return someday.
