Frank recently repaired our Giannini baritone ukulele that we purchased in 1971. We are very impressed with the quality of the repairs Frank made as well as his attention to detail. Frank went beyond what we expected and did so at a reasonable price. We couldn't be more pleased with our decision to have Frank make repairs to our treasured ukulele.
I worked with Frank Lyndsay at my previous job and at first I worked around him and upto actually working with him ,and I New then when he said he was going to take a Luthier course with one of the more we’ll known acoustic guitar builders locally I new he would jump in and give it his all he never did much less at work!
So I jumped at the chance to get him to build me a guitar because I New for a fact that it would be nothing short of a peace of Art ,I’ve seen his work ethic first hand and I New he had some art skills as well ,I hadn’t realized he had skills with wood until I started seeing his first guitar he was making in his class ,and I couldn’t believe how skillful he was with that already.
I was still trying to figure out what kind of tone woods I was interested in and the specific sound I was looking for and talking with Frank I got a really good idea about what direction I was thinking about going ,and then I saw the body of the guitar I decided I was buying during the Guitar Expo in Chesapeake ofwhich became hugely important!
As I stood there listening to and playing a few of the guitars Frank had built I realized as people were coming up talking to him that they thought his guitars sounded better than this $10,000. Guitar in another part of the expo and then another guy came up and said that Franks guitars sounded better than a $12,000. Guitar he had played! Then it struck me that I had actually sat down and played a $15,000. Guitar my self and the one I had in my hands blew it away as well!
My eyes kept getting drawn to the table were Frank had a guitar that was in the beginning stages of being worked on and I saw a few people that day take interest in it so then it came to mind I need to jump on this thing and put down some cash on it or it won’t be there.
I went home and talked it over with the wife and she New what I’d be buying was not only worth it but would be something that you can’t find in guitar center and to my surprise she agreed we needed to jump in and get this going.
So a few days after the Expo we called up Frank and met him at his shop and started going over ALL the details what kind of woods I wanted in the neck and how I wanted to attach the neck, what kind of fret markers etc. it was quite the list and it was all my decision even after the box of the guitar was mostly put together everything else was mine as I wanted it.
This guitar I got to see where the wood came from pictures of the whole process from beginning to end even showed me how he tone taps and tunes each peace of wood and bracing! Just everything a good luthier should do,and later I even got to sand the back of the neck so it’s custom to my hand!
I can’t say enough good things about this process that it’s been getting my guitar hand built from Frank and Rachel, the only thing I can say negatively is that it took some time to get it all done, and I’m really great full it did because you can’t rush a peace of art like this and now Ember is home with her new family and she sounds truly amazing and looks as much too!
Frank did a little magic with my 10 year old Takamine EAN40C. Some of the frets were badly worn down and others were uneven. He got them perfect (which is a word I don't use lightly). I thought it would be easier to play - and for sure it is, but it somehow also SOUNDS better. Richer, warmer, more fun to play. One day soon I want him to build me a custom!
Mr. Lindsay was very professional and wonderful to work with. He was knowledgeable about his product and has some beautiful work. I am eager to seek him out again for future purchases.
Beautiful wood, impeccable craftsmanship, and amazing tone. Friendly customer service too. A++!!!!
