Great experience. Excellent background on Ft Monroe provide. Great exhibits. Very informative. Bring ur kids.
Best thing about this place: it’s FREE! Staff are super nice and informative. We went to the museum, but we had to go to the visitor center to get the free tickets. We ended up staying at the visitor center for 30 minutes and then heading back over. Kathy was a volunteer there and was super knowledgeable. We got to see Jeff Davis’ prison cell. Afterward, we walked around the fort on the self guided tour. Highly recommend, especially for the price, ha!
A lot to see in such a small place. Wonderful displays and knowledgeable staff. We had a great day today and can't wait to come back.
This museum is a true hidden gem. I live locally and it's one of my favorite places to visit. Over 400 years of history at Ft. Monroe so it's difficult to sum up everything there but there is plenty to see, read and learn. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff! When you're done at the museum you must explore the fort. It's beautiful! So glad this place was able to reopen. If you haven't been yet, go!
As a tourist It was a fascinating experience. If you are interested in history and war monuments, this is something you should not miss. This old army base is now boasted off with beautiful colonial style houses and magnolia trees.
