One of the best national Civil War battlefields in the East. The NPS has a visitors center in the historic Tredegar building that was used to make ammunition for the confederate state during the Civil War. There is a museum that accompanies the visitors center that tells the history of Richmond and the surrounding area before, during, and after the Civil War. The museum has treasured photos of the destruction of Richmond and maps that give a time period marking all events from 1861-1865. The museum is free to all and parking is available right next door.
Belle isle was so much more than i expected. I will come back over and over. So much to see and do. Kayaking, rock climbing, swimming or biking around the isle. Great surprise.
We stopped by at the Richmond National Battlefield and there is a lot of history to learn. There are plenty of exhibits explaining different specific events and a few different 20 minute long videos that also do a great job explaining the history of this place.
Wonderful is all I can say. Amazing historical sites all around this area
Turn right on Tredegar Street and then turn right again into the parking lot for the American Civil War Center and Richmond National Battlefield Park's Civil War Visitor Center.
