Behind a power plant so there is a security check, but great place for getting back to nature. Decent fishing for top water or bottom fishing. Make sure you have your ID and any hunting or fishing licences though or you will have to buy a pass. Closes at sunset.

Access is more difficult than it used to be, because you have to pass the Surry Power Station security checkpoint to get to the refuge, but it is worth the hassle if you like waterfowl watching and walking in natural settings... Bring mosquito repellent

This place is VERY difficult to reach, you have to pass through a nuclear facility and get your car checked by armed guards. Once you're there, however, it's a very enjoyable experience. There are great birds a lot of the time, in fact ruff stopped by for a few weeks in July. There are plenty of clearly marked trails, albeit no bathrooms or facilities of any kind. Overall a great place for birding and to visit in general.
