“Found this trail as I was hiking on the AT back to my car. The Potomac Heritage Trail branches off the AT going to the left downhill. Alternate route down to the road. Steep, with loose gravel. Wear sturdy footwear...and hiking poles helpful!”

“I took the train to Harper's Ferry, spent the night here, and biked back to DC along the C&O Canal the next day. The hotel was clean, comfortable and inexpensive. There was a hot breakfast, with sausages and eggs, as well as the usual bagels and cereal. Unlike others, I was not disturbed by noise or idling trucks. It would have been nice to have premium cable - ESPN or HBO - but for the price I did not expect it. The hotel is outside of town (actually in Bolivar, the next town up the river), and there are no places to eat nearby, so unless you have a car you should get dinner in Harper's Ferry, as it's a pretty good walk from the train. There are lots of B&Bs in town, but I like my king size bed and cable TV. If that describes you, this is where you should stay.”

“Cool! Go all the way to the way and follow the trail to more historic sites along the river... like the water tunnels...on your way to lower town.”

“Excellent walking self guide tour of the locks and canals that made up this area prior to harness the power of water for industry. And there is the town of Hapers Ferry as well - where abolitionist John Brown attempted to create an armed insurrection to end slavery by storming the federal armory in the town.”

“We enjoyed the campground, even though the season was pretty much over. The location is great if you're going to visit the local sites, and the grounds themselves are well kept. Only problem was that the sites don't drain all that well and there are puddles in the rain.”

“We found the staff to be very friendly and extremely helpful! Take the bus tour to Harper's Ferry as it relieves the traffic and parking issues! Plan at least an hour or more if you choose to have a meal. The upper parts of the town would be difficult for disabled or elderly with ambulation issues but there is plenty to do and see for all!”

“We visited in the dead of winter during a 3-day weekend and easily found a parking spot. There is a $10 fee paid at the entrance of the Visitor Center, which also includes a shuttle transfer to downtown Harpers Ferry.”

“Part of Harpers Ferry National Park. Beautiful and historic park that sits on the border of three states, along two rivers - no wonder it played a vital role in the Civil War. NPS guides were so helpful and knowledgeable. We had a lovely day waking trails to scenic overlooks and historically relevant places. The trails were gravel and easy to walk.”

“Come for a free slice of cake, a trivia game, and the not-so-sweet story of the owner, a German immigrant named Frederick Roeder, who became the first local casualty of the Civil War. Staff working here were friendly and helpful.”
