  The range was pretty nice, and they had some cool rental handguns to be sure. What I really liked was how all their used long guns were out on the shopping floor on open gun racks. It was very convenient and low-pressure to walk up and pick up whatever caught my eye. There was alot of variety too, ARs, AKs, double barrel, semi auto and pump shotguns, bolt actions, various 22s, muzzleloaders, etc. I highly recommend checking here first if youre looking for a used gun.

  Love Max Creek already. Only been once. Super helpful. Super friendly. Great prices compared to Pt Firearms in Cross Plains, WI and even good compared to what's online.

  I've been coming here for 3-4 years and I can't recommend them enough. Amazing customer service, great prices, good facilities, and a reputable local business.
  
  I've bought all of my pistols here since I turned 21 because they usually save me a good chunk of change (10-20% over competitors). Their ammo, range, and rental prices are very fair to downright cheap. At this point, several of my friends and I have bought guns from them, as well as too many range days to count and a lot of ammo. The indoor range is great for satisfying an itchy trigger finger when it's too cold to shoot outside. Being so close to Madison makes it great for a quick stop to relieve some stress by popping off some 45 rounds.
  
  Above all of that though, the reason I keep coming back and giving them all of my money is the customer service. I'm on a first name basis with just about everyone that works there now, but even before they had any idea who I was, they've always been really good to me going back to my first call in. I've been shooting my whole life, so they mostly help me find/get what I'm looking for and answer questions about things I'm not so well-versed in. However, I bring a lot of beginners who ask a lot of questions, and the staff is always really good at helping them out too. I've even seen the owner come in with renters and basically teach them how to shoot (though I don't know how common that is). They even fielded a paperwork request for me at 10pm over Facebook messenger (again, I wouldn't expect this all the time).
  
  *Common questions answered:*
  -You can shoot rifles here as long as they're under 3000 FPS (I believe that's the stipulation).
  -You can shoot shotguns here, but I don't remember the stipulations on that. I think they prefer buckshot?
  -You can rent guns, ear protection, and eye protection, or bring your own.
  -You can buy ammo here (pretty much every common caliber available) or bring your own.
  -No steel casings or steel core ammo (green-tips included).
  -The range closes 30 minutes before the shop.
  -The range is six lanes out to about 20 yards.
  -Rapid fire is allowed as long as it is controlled (don't shoot up the ceiling or target tracks).
  -A target is provided and more can be purchased, or you can bring your own I believe.
  -You can buy guns from the counter or they can order for you if they don't have exactly what you're looking for. So far, they've been able to get everything I've wanted.
  -They have pistols, rifles, and shotguns in stock, new and used.
  -They also have knives, holsters, cleaning kits, magazines, sights, and other accessories.
  -There is a gunsmith in the building, though I'm not sure if his hours line up exactly with the shop. I believe it's called Black Thistle Gunsmithing.

  Knowledgeable and friendly staff. They have a pretty nice indoor range coupled with a great selection of rental guns if you desire. I go there every couple of months to shoot when I can't go shoot at my friend's place. Recommend them very much.

  I dropped in by chance, just Google Maps finding because I was in the area and outside of my county, so no idea what I was going to find. I had in several countries (not counties) and locations a broad range of experiences when dealing with gun shops, I am very happy to say, Max Creek Outdoors is a little gem. From the moment I parked in the back parking (too many cars parked in the front one), I could see the building was serious. The entrance is a kind of unassuming, so I entered with no idea what was expecting me: some time you see a shop that looks like more a supermarket, sometimes you can tell immediately it means business. I spotted a selection that made me feel I was in the right place. Then I worried about the attitude of the staff, also considering the shop was pretty full of customers, and the contingent situations of COVID and recent social tension. I understand shops more than usual may face weirdos, so they try to do a bit of screening. Staff, in particular the owner, were simply GREAT. He made sure to understand our concerns, provided guidance and advice (all SO correct and thoughtful, so I understand he knew his business), he even kindly arranged to have my wife and me test similar models in the range, so we could make a more educated purchase. Our experience was memorable and VERY POSITIVE. I strongly recommend Max Creek Outdoors.
