“I have eight family members buried here that passed away over 40 years ago. I recently planned a visit; I called ahead and Donnella looked on the computer to confirm they were buried their. She was very polite. When I arrived at the cenetary, she and another employee gave me a map and were very helpful and kind. I easily found all their plots, and considering how long ago my family was buried the graves were well tended. The entire cemetery was well cared for and the grass was freshly cut. It's a huge cemetery and the staff appears to be very hardworking as they do a wonderful job.”

“My Father , Ellison Jackson Johnson, served in the Marine Corps and On March 14 at 3 PM 1959 shot himself in the head with a target pistol. I was 5 years old. My Mom hid how he died from me until a few years ago. When I found his grave there, his headstone is down on the back fence section 8 jammed in next to 3 others. It has been sinking over these years and I had requested that something be done and got no reply. From the entrance If you turn left then left toward section 8 you will find "The branch with the black water", It is full of trash and debris. It has gotten worse each time that we come visit his grave. Why is there not a group to clean up this toxic waterway? Or Why can't the incarcerated clean up that branch?Why can't your company raise the markers so that they don't sink away. Thanks, (I'm sorry that I can't give you a better review but I can see that my Father's marker isn't the only one ) He has served this country, and was born and raised in Alabama and worked there at Hayes Aircraft many years. He lived on the Southside (the UAB campus is built on the property that his house sat on). 2/20/2019- This is my New Review I am changing it to 5 Stars with Mr R Shoemakers assurance that there is going to be an updated clean up in the near future of the water way and fence line on the Veterans side of the graveyard. “I arrived here at the cemetery as part of a road trip to the United States to bring a fabric flower greeting to the grave of one of the greatest comedians. I was surprised to see the grave had not been taken care of? I didn’t want to leave it looking so untreated. Apologies to the relatives of the deceased, I cleaned the memorial and felt that my arrival at the scene was God’s will? I removed debris and withered flower from the grave. I almost threw a jar of lasagna in the trash as well, but then I remembered that it was perhaps a greeting from a Russian-born fan/fans, there in culture people bring food to the grave for the spirit of the deceased. At the same time, I cleaned the items left by the fans and placed them on the grave beautifully. The flowers completed the appearance of the tomb. In my country; Finland, the graves of the deceased often have flowers. I look up to heaven and thank God for this experience! Now it is good to continue my journey to north and into several experiences.”

“Davis Cemetery is listed on the historic registry. The place is kept up by its board of trustees. It almost always looks clean and well kept. The cemetery does a lot with what little it receives. I have family there and it will always hold a place near my heart. If your interested in the historic sites of Alabama and Walker County, stop by and read the marker and take some time to visit the people of yesteryear.”

“If you live any where within range of this cemetery you most likely want yourself and family taken care of the very best a dead body could be so I'm telling all of you that in death there's no other place one could place someone than Southern Heritage. The head directer here is the best in his field. Go see him and tell him I sent you. I bought mine, wife and my dear mother's lots here many years ago and paid at the time per lot $800.00 but today the lots or plots are sky high but you want the very best in death as you did in life so invest here. You will be in heaven on earth with all the other spirits buried here. Go visit them....You'll be glad you did when you get there one day or plaint your love ones there.”

“The mausoleum is usually locked. As long as you can find an official or worker you can ask for the mausoleum to be unlocked. Call ahead to ensure that you can pay respect. It's a shame that the management of the cemetery is rather unprofessional not keeping office hours and lack in maintenance and upkeep.”
