“Enjoyable morning walk in our neighborhood. The Eagle River is frozen right now, though likely not for long. To hear the crunch of crusted snow underfoot while the river still rushes under ice is an auditory gift. When the sun is out (and even when it’s not) any trail along the Eagle River promises spectacular scenery. Walking on waves frozen as if they were tectonic plates is precarious but equally exciting. Good walking poles and cleats help in the winter. I’d suggest poles for summer treks as well. Walking near rivers requires caution, no matter the season. Enjoy but keep a safe distance from open water. Don’t try to cross in any conditions less than ideal and without proper training or assistance. Remember, bears frequent the area in Spring, Summer and Fall, moose as well.”

“Very impressive stop in Anchorage. All outdoor exhibit, easy paved walk unless you want to take the "bonus trail." Unlike any other Botanical gardens... and by the way there's a chance to see a moose or bears! I would return for sure!”

“Must have base access, and it is a very quiet and pretty place to camp. Family and dog friendly. There are laundry machines in the small building near the park. This was a really great find for us.”

“Very nice fields for softball/ other field sporting activity, generous number of well-kept port-a-potties/rent-a-cans, & another plus* no unexpected wildlife encounters. The only reason I'm giving Javier De la Vega Park a 4-star rating, rather than a 5-star rating, is because of the fact that it's so well-hidden from the public's direct line of sight... (in my personal opinion: the sign should be more visible to people from the highway!) Anyhow, I've lived here 10+ years & never even knew it was there, thank you! 👍”

“This is a gorgeous lakeside setting that often goes all summer without the mosquitoes finding it! There are wide open spaces for people to run around & play or picnic. The paved bike trails through the woods circle around Goose Lake. A few years ago I almost ran into a large black bear right on the trail just a few yards from one on the busiest roads in town. It's a great place to just get away for a little while. If you're a geocacher, this is a great setting, with still plenty of room to hide more!”

“This is a nice, quiet little park, with a decent little playground for the kids. There are a lot of trees on the north end, with a small pavillion in the middle by the playground. The south end open up to mowed grass with a small slope rising up the street on the south end where it borders 4th ave.”

“Super quiet, little playground. We love to come here when the "polar bear park" is too busy. Great for infants, toddlers, and young children. There is a play area, grassy hill area, swings and a covered patio that you can bring your own tables to if you like. Pretty well shaded for warm days and normally empty. Paved walking path.”
