I have only done this hike once. It was somewhat hard because 1. I'm a n00b 2. I went there towards the end of July and 3. From what I read, this one is harder than the Cholla trail.
There's quite a bit of "rock climbing" meaning that there are a few parts of it where you are going on really steep ground. There's quite a bit of people hiking which I didn't mind but some do.
Started at 5:15 AM, was back down around 8:00 AM and spent about 20-30 minutes on the top taking pictures and what not. Carried about 80 oz of water which was more than enough. There were some really kind people handing out ice cold water bottles which was a good way to end the hike.
Will probably go back during the fall to see if the hike "gets easier".
Loved this place!!! The Rangers are super nice and rich in valuable information about the area. For sure a sweet spot to go out for bouldering and hiking!!! High recommended anyone to make an effort to come check this place out if you're in the Phoenix AZ area!
The terrain is from moderate beginner's to double black diamond. There are plenty of lower trails to hike and experience the beautiful scenery and views. The rock formations and colors are very beautiful with some cactus growing in some pretty cool spots. You will see some homes built on the base area of this mountain as well as the adjacent mountains. The elevation is not extreme but some of the advanced hikes can get a bit steep and slippery. Definitely a hike worth going to if you are in this area, be sure to go early morning if possible and bring plenty of water.
I hike this trail 4 days a week since 2013. It is more extreme if you are not used to elevation gain. Best times to hike year round are Early morning before 8:00 am and a couple hours prior to sunset! This is a Great workout! Stay on the trail! Wear a lightweight pack so you can be hands-free and pack couple waters, phone and wear adequate trail shoes. Definitely not recommend for small children! No dogs allowed on echo canyon trailhead! Too dangerous for them. Watch for rattlesnakes from May-Oct! I’ve seen 6 in past 2 weeks.

Be aware its a hard hike if you're not in shape. Remember to bring a good amount of water with you along with a hat, as it gets hot as the day goes on. I brought about a gallon and was about 3/4 through it at the end of the hike.
If so inclined try to do the hike early in the morning as to avoid most of the heat. Otherwise it was an awesome morning trek.
