Dr. Streitfeld is a God send. I searched for 10 years for a psychiatrist that actually listened instead of just prescribing whatever the “featured medication” was. Dr Streitfeld and I patiently and gradually adjusted my medications until we found the right combination that has had me stable for over a year. He offers the GeneSight test which takes some of the guess work out of prescriptions. He truly cares for my wellbeing and never forces me to make any changes do my medication without us discussing it. He is knowledgeable in the different medications and their pros and cons. He has truly been a blessing and I am very grateful for him.

    GOOD DOCTOR
I was a patient of Dr. Streitfeld’s for 4 years. I saw him for ADD issues. And I must say I’m surprised by the negatIve reviews.

There are a lot of less than stellar places in general that have inexplicably high reviews. Some businesses incentivize positive reviews with rewards like discounts. I think it’s wrong that genuinely good places, like this, have such a poor rating when other places that are just more actively marketing themselves.

I personally would trust my care to a doctor that puts his time and energy into patients rather than on marketing himself on platforms like this.

I wasn’t going to leave a long review here. But I feel compelled to do so now.

Dr. Streitfeld is one of those rare psychiatrists that actually sits down and speaks with you about your issues whenever you visit— he doesn’t just give you a quick quantitative evaluation and give you a prescription. He’s compassionate, knowledgeable, and perhaps most important (and rare these days) is that he’s very present. I never felt rushed or like I was wasting his time. I’m sure he had some way of keeping track of time. But he was considerate and tactful about it.

Dr. Streitfeld really listened to me and carefully calibrated my dose to try to control side effects. He also checked in with me regularly about how I was dealing with the ADD in general (since medication doesn’t solve everything— something Dr. Streitfeld really gets). He took detailed notes about what we talked about. And when I came in, we always reviewed what had been happening last time. And he seems to have a good system for keeping track of notes long term too. I remember once, we were talking about whether he was going to adjust the medication after I’d been prescribed another medication by a different doctor and he was able to bring up, on the spot, notes from years earlier to use in the discussion.

During our appointments, Dr. Streitfelf also gave me ways to deal with the forgetfulness and the wandering attention. Perhaps most illuminating, not making myself sit at my desk when I was having trouble working on something, but rather allowing myself options-- the ability to choose a task rather than following a schedule (when I didn't need to). “I should” I would say to myself, “be able to just sit down and do this. I just need some self-discipline.” These were the kinds of things I heard often and had begun to say to myself later. It’s not that they were traumatic or anything like that. It’s only that it was a misunderstanding of how my own brain was working. And trying to apply it to my situation had the unintended result of making me feel constantly ashamed (as well as doing nothing for my ability to be productive). But with some understanding and kindness, Dr. Streitfeld helped me to quiet that voice and work with my mind rather than inwardly shouting at it for not working like other minds constantly. And I saw an improvement in my work.

I only stopped care with him because I had to move to another city in another state. And when I had, and when I was getting set up with a new provider at a complex that evaluates individual patients and places them with providers based not he results of that evaluation, I remember the counselor was surprised at the care I described having received from Dr. Streitfeld. “This was a psychiatrist?” She asked me. “Doctors don’t usually take that kind of time anymore. That’s a good doctor right there.” And she explained to me how things normally go.

I knew Dr. Streitfeld had been a good doctor to me. But I did not realize that he was actually a remarkable doctor. And having seen how poor his reviews are here, I feel very guilty about not having spoken up about it sooner. I really think if you want good personalized care, he's the man to see. Confrontation is part of good mental health care, and has been since Freud. If you prefer good customer service, I'm sure you can find someone who will tell you want to hear inn exchange for the promise of a positive review if that’s what you really want. But me? I prefer to get better.
