“Restrooms were locked on a Wednesday afternoon. Portable restroom hasn't been cleaned in a very long time. Beautiful meanandering paved walking trail takes you around the lake and over one walking bridge. Dog-friendly. Lots of crows, varieties of geese, ducks, Great Blue Heron and American White Pelican. We saw people fishing from the shore. Picnic tables and a few benches along the trail. Well maintained.”

“The food is hot and fresh comes quickly and cheap. With zero atmosphere. It's more like a human filling station. Also, the video games in the kids play area is so loud that even sitting at the furthest table with my headphones on it was disturbing me LOL”

“great place to unwind and enjoy the garden. Keep a sharp eye on the coy fish they are a wonder to look at. The little turtles are sweet to see swimming around. I love the small steps around the garden that you can walk on and sit under the small trees.”

“a review from @amom2kidsandapark This park has everything you need and more! With a playground, picnic areas, a rose garden, soccer field, basket ball court, horse shop pits and more, it really feels like the possibility are endless. Along with the soccer and basketball fields/courts there are other recreation options including tennis, shuffle board, baseball and softball. The playground is fairly large. There are two slides (short straight and tube spiral), steps, ladders, the tunnel/ramp bridge seen at other Hayward parks, balance beam, climbing wall, and monkey bars. The play area also has a swing set with standard and bucket swings. The smaller slide is only accessible via ladder. This park has so much grass and if you’re lucky on a hot day you’ll be there when the sprinklers are on. Don’t miss the rose garden and statue in front of the historic house. There are two small parking lots off of Tennyson but street parking on Darwin gets you closed to the playground. There are bathrooms near the ball fields.”

“Sweet little park. My husband's family had a home nearby when he was much younger, he remembers playing outside in that area. The park is very close to his grandparents old place. He noted the old out buildings are still there on the property.”

“Short loop that offers great views to the Bay and Southern San Francisco peninsula. No shade at all so the trail is best in spring and fall but still good for summer as long as you have enough protection from the sun. Easy access on both ends to parking lots and enough elevation to transform this hike into a good short workout.”

“I go to this park often because my cross country team has their meets here. There is a bathroom and an outhouse in front. There is a small lake. There is a picnic area up on a hill where I have seen Afghan men flying kites. There are often families here on the weekend having barbecues. The last time I was there I saw a girl taking quincennera pictures with her limo and well-dressed attendants. Two weeks ago I saw a huge tarantula (for the first time ever) and last week I saw a small snake. There are many ground squirrels/gophers. The small lake has ducks and fish. Parking at the Garin Ave. entrance costs $5 when the booth is manned - usually 8:30 to 5?. There is no charge to park at the Dry Creek staging area, but then you have to hike to the main park with its lake and facilities. The park closes at sunset. There is a campground area with outhouses which is good for small group overnight camping. Up on the hill you get a nice panoramic view of the Bay Area.”

“Excellent views. Very peaceful. Not crowded. There are many cows around. If you are into hiking, you can choose from many different options based on how difficult you want it to be.”

“Great place for a picnic lunch or dinner. There are a few picnic tables, but no restrooms. Parking along the street below. Amazing westward views of the Bay. Very small with just a short path around the park, so you won't spend much time here if you're hiking. I would recommend adding the nearby Ukraina trail if you want to get some mileage (trailhead on the other side of the soccer fields on Carden Lane).”

“This is the cleanest park I’ve ever been to. The grounds keepers are almost always there manicuring the lawn and the bathrooms are so clean! This park has a spectacular view of the Bay and has three different picnic areas to barbecue. The best part is, it’s never crowded! Some rules : Dogs must be on a leash. No Jumper’s, No smoking or drinking”

“This is a continuation of the Chabot to Garin trail, connecting Don Castro below to the 5 Canyons trail system which continues on to south Hayward and Garin Park. The first hill up to the water tanks is pretty aggressive, and I would rate it as difficult, but it's only 1/4 of a mile and then you're at the top. After that, it is all easy and medium difficulty. Beautiful views of the Bay and a great place to watch the sun set! Enjoy the beautiful grasslands and Oak and Bay Tree forest! Lots of wildlife.”

Address: Hayward Plunge Trail, Hayward, CA 94542, USA
“Names are a little confusing. Best place to start (trailhead) is Campus Drive. There you will find 2 trail heads. The Greenbelt trail is also marked as Ward Creek Trail and it runs along the Ward Creek for about a mile until its ascend toward the end. The other trail is called Hayward Plunge trail or East Avenue trail and runs parallel to the Greenbelt trail. Generally, from campus drive to the Durham way (end point) is ascending. You can choose your either trail as ascending but I would say East Avenue trail is more forgiving ascend that Greenbelt which has more ups and downs. While it only seems like a short hike (2 miles each way) be prepared to get winded due to elevation especially on Greenbelt side.”
