Just a nice little view on the floor of Bear Valley Springs. Went here to visit the in laws in mid August. I love the outdoors and this was a nice little getaway. The weather is beautiful but sunny this time of year. The hottest days were an upwards of 88°F and lowest during the days was mid 70s.
At night it gets a cool almost icy temp, reminds me of the coastal temperatures in San Francisco.
This lake is beautiful and locals seem to bring their dogs here for walks and joggers jogging the pathway here. Right before we left, there were a couple of people who brought their horses here to ride around. It is Equestrian friendly this park/lake. The restrooms are immaculate I've never seen anything cleaner offered by a park/lake. There's also a kids playground too. The tall grass in this park/lake area is kept untouched to help the California Elk from being seen as this is one of their feeding and stomping grounds. I did see a small family of Elks the 2nd day my husband and I were here. They were grazing on a residence lawn and even resting beside a beautiful vintage red barn. My mother in law took me there to see and luckily they were grazing at that spot so we parked to watch them for a few minutes. It was breathtaking. There is also Deer that come through here to graze.
My in laws were gracious as to be hospitable hosts for our stay, and I could see outside in the front deck that faces Cub Lake, there's all sorts of wildlife out here from seeing 3 Golden Eagles soaring above the skies, to families of California Quails roaming and crossing the residential streets into lawns, sights of Acorn Woodpeckers sitting atop telephone poles, Scrub Jay's picking on the grassy floor, your common Raven flying about and so much more. My first day here I spotted and got a video clip of a Northern Flicker. Mind you I'm very new to birding and listening and viewing birds is something I recently started doing as of this past year. Download the birding App called "BirdNET" to identify via vocally and/or physical traits and discover birds in particular areas if you are curious as this helped me immensely to learn about birds.
If you have allergies be prepared to bring some allergy medicine. First 2 days my allergies didn't bother me, after that my nose was plugged the whole week unfortunately. The elevation I read by searching online ranges from 4000-6000 feet. I wanted to tan, and for the sunlight here, it only took 15-30mins of being outside for myself to get a shade darker. I spent about an hour sunbathing in my in laws front deck which faces this pond, and I got the desired tan color I used to be years back without having to spend a whole day tanning in the sun at the beach. I've heard there are also hiking trails and I would like to attempt the next time my husband and I come back to visit.
Bear Valley Springs is also 1 hour away from Bakersfield and 2 hours away from Los Angeles if you want to venture out more to surrounding cities. Overall a beautiful little valley.
Not bad has a beautiful lake a dog park (that has water) the dog park has a huge field for dogs to run around and a smaller grass area for smaller dogs under 20 pounds the playground is amazing for kids to play on the swings need to be fixed thats a reason why I gave it 4 stars beautiful sitting area and tress would recommend
Beautiful and serene, and our local elk frequent the lake and the meadow surrounding it.
I hope they take better care of cub lake than they have of 4 island lake, cub lake is really great place just to walk and relax.
I love this place it's beautiful and peaceful. I always enjoy seeing the ducks. There are nice tables to sit on, a dog park and a walking path. I just wish the bathrooms worked and they had more than just really dirty outhouses. So I recommend making sure you don't have to use the bathroom before coming here.
