Avid Speech Therapy

Avid has meant so much to my family over the past year. My son was diagnosed with a moderate speech delay and was barely verbal at 3 years old. After the initial evaluation and a few sessions, speech therapy became a bright spot in my week because of how much energy and focus went into developing my son’s communication skills. Sometimes I felt like every therapist knew my son personally. Narissa told me that, yeah, they discuss progress and strategies amongst each other. I sometimes even get homework to carry over strategies at home. We moved to teletherapy for a period during the shelter-in-place orders, and that was more productive than I thought. Overall, Avid Speech is a top notch organization if you’re seeking speech services in Orange County, and I’m thrilled to share it.

Speech therapy sessions for my five year old with Narissa and Jason through Zoom have been a terrific alternative to our traditional in-person sessions. We were a bit skeptical at first at how effective the lessons would be without their physical presence but quickly realized that it wasn't so much the physical presence that was necessary, but the genuine motivation, knowledge and patience that the team at Avid brings that makes each session worth while. These digital sessions are the perfect solution for times when in-person meetings are simply not an option.

I’m not sure I’ll ever find the correct words to express how grateful I am to Narissa, Jason and the rest of the staff at Avid Speech. I brought my daughter to Avid speech when she was two because she would only grunt and get very upset because we were unable to find a way to communicate effectively with each other — needless to say it caused a lot of stress for our family and we needed the help. Jason and Narissa have been instrumental in my daughter developing her communication skills first with sign language and then onto words. They have always been kind, willing to go at the speed she needs, and have keep every single session we’ve attending fun —so fun in fact that my daughter looked forward to each time she went to “class with her teacher”. I could see my daughter enjoyed her time there so much that we enrolled in their Summer language program where she would have classes weekly with other kids similar in age and would have done it in a heartbeat (again) if we had stayed in Orange County.

Zoe is now a talkative and expressive (and silly) four year old and I owe many thanks to their team for helping her develop this little personality that we love. They also worked with us on several occasions on scheduling and insurance going above what I would expect from any facility we would have chosen.

My son had struggled with the pronunciation of SH, CH, and general S sounds for longer than I'm comfortable admitting. I thought it was normal, and teachers (and even my pediatrician) said that it would take care of itself with time.

After months of noticing a gap between him and his peers, I finally decided to meet with a specialist and found Narissa at Avid Speech. We discussed my concerns at our initial consultation, and then we scheduled a full evaluation. After just a few months of treatment (~3-4 I think), it dawned on me that my little guy was pronouncing sounds he previously struggled with. We also have him in a social skills program over the summer now. Narissa is truly wonderful and has a strong grasp of virtually every aspect of dealing with children. The entire staff is incredibly warm and genuine.

While I regret not seeing a specialist sooner, I have so much joy seeing my little one progressing so much with his speech production and overall confidence. I highly recommend Avid Speech for more reasons than I can express here. So Grateful!

Our 2-year old son started at Avid just three months ago when his speaking ability was limited to only a few simple words. Fast forward to 90 days later and now we cannot stop him from talking, singing and absorbing new words everyday. Each morning when our son comes to the Avid learning center, he gets excited and can't wait to interact with the staff and therapists. My wife and I could not be happier at the progress he's made with the help from the wonderful staff at Avid.
