Knickerbocker Mansion

Great historical landmark in Big Bear, the new owners have done a ton of improvements to the property and obviously care to preserve it for future generations its available for weddings or other functions as well as a get a way weekend with or without the kids easy walking distance from the Village shopping and restaurants and only a couple blocks from the lake. Close to all the action but still quiet enough to fully relax and recenter. Definitely recommend checking this place out.

Big Bear Mansion is no longer a bed and breakfast like Google's summary states but is a vacation rental. My family and some friends rented out the entire property and had a great time. We were able to bring our 3 large dogs (German Shepherd, Golden Retriever, and St. Bernard). We went in the summer and were able to have great BBQs every night, walk to town for drinks, and rented a pontoon boat for the day on the lake. The drive to the dock took literally 2 minutes. The houses held 20 of us comfortably. The houses were very clean and the amenities were exactly as advertised. The owners of the Mansion were responsive and available throughout our trip for anything that came up. It is definitely a place we will be returning to in the future.

I have always enjoyed my visits to this one of a kind resort facility. The ambiance is exceptional from the time you enter this extraordinary place to partake of the excellent cuisine provided by their again one of a kind kitchen and than, relax in their very warm and comforting rooms that are very individualistic in their redecoration from the previous owner. I would gladly return to this place of joy, especially the walks on the various walking, biking, and hiking trails nearby.

My husband and I had our wedding and reception at the Knickerbocker Mansion, and it was the PERFECT venue for us. The landscaped grounds, the feeling of seclusion being surrounded by the forest and the sweeping view toward the lake from the outdoor deck combined with the rustic elegance of the mansion and its bistro made for a truly exquisite setting. And I cannot say enough about Vickie and Ed Harris and their staff. They are the warmest, most accommodating hosts you could ever ask for. They went above and beyond to ensure our event went off without a hitch. Vickie frequently checked in with me to see if there was anything I needed (we stayed in the Mansion Suite). We had a couple of last minute requests, and they simply said, “If that’s what you want, we’ll make it happen.”

It poured rain in the hours leading up to the outdoor event. When the rain stopped just 45 minutes before the ceremony was to begin they scrambled to dry all the chairs for the wedding and get the tables for the reception set with tablecloths and our centerpieces. It gave me a great deal of comfort knowing they were taking care of things while we were getting ready for our nuptials.

Overall, this was a five star experience for us. I recommend the Knickerbocker Mansion and Ed & Vickie Harris wholeheartedly for any event you may be planning.

Very nice lodge/BnB style accommodations in Big Bear. We had a gift certificate and happened to be staying around New Year's weekend which meant they were fairly full when we tried to book. The owner was very nice and was able to accommodate us and opened a room up just for us! The breakfast was good and a little different each day. We didn't have a chance to stay for their brunch but have heard good things. Would definitely recommend stopping in if you get a chance. The room was very clean and comfy.
