“Not as heavily trafficked as hiking sites suggest, so it was very peaceful. Lots of trail options and the lake was awesome. The road going to the trailhead is pretty rough. Wouldn't recommend a normal car (might scrape your bumper off); go in an SUV or tuck.”

“Great trail. Buddy and I went up and saw 4 other people on the entire trail. Weather was great until afternoon shower rushed us off below the tree line. James peak has a couple nice wind breaks at the top to chill and relax before coming back down. Gravel road to get to trailhead was pretty rough in spots. Reccomend 4x4 or suv/truck to get in and out, especially if wet conditions exist.”

“Best hikes an backpacking trips in Colorado! Beautiful area. Glaciers, nature, mountain passes. You get to cross the Continental Divide. I suggest doing the backpacking loop because you can experience nature far from any large city. Basically all the streams are clean. Warning: No bathrooms on the trail. Beautiful scenery. Also, bring binoculars because there is lots of wildlife life like Marmots and deer on the trail. Not many people hike there so you have lots of spacers to enjoy your surroundings. You should also bring a camera.”

“Awesome place! You DO need a permit during certain times of the year. I didn't know that and didn't see any signs about that, but I found out the hard way. They were extremely friendly, but have a job to do and are trying to strictly enforce the permit system.”

“4/20/2018 I’ve been here and it’s a hike from Brainer Lake. Once you go pass Lake Isabelle it’s all up to Pawnee Pass. You’ll go by a marker that marks the pass then you head down towards the lake. Also I had cell phone coverage near the lake because Granby is across the valley.”
