Check out the photos and movie of the natural waterslide at Flatrock Junction in the Sawtooth Wilderness. Its not every day you get to slide down a rock. Thanks to Mom and Rhett for going on this adventure with me. See below for information on how to get there.
From the Redfish trailhead we hiked up to flatrock junction. This is about a 3.5 mile hike. We stopped here and slid on the rocks and ate lunch. View from Trail up to Flatrock Junction. Waterfall at Cramer Lakes with arrowhead in background.
It's 10 miles and 3100 feet to the base. Redfish Lake: Take the Shuttle Boat (fee) across. Hike from the Inlet Transfer Camp up Redfish Creek for 3.5 miles to Flatrock Junction. Turn right toward Alpine Lake and ascend a quick 1000 feet. Hike up over Baron Divide (9130 feet) into the Baron Lakes Basin.
After reaching the Grandjean trail junction (~5670), we turned south once again, and headed 7 miles up the Baron Creek drainage towards Baron Creek Falls and We followed the trail down, past Alpine Lake, until we reached Redfish Lake Creek and the water crossing at Flatrock Junction (~7400 ft).
The section from Iron Wheel Junction to Junkyard Junction can be very eroded and have some gullies and large stones. At Flatrock Junction the snowmobile trail crosses the Quick Lake hiking trail so be careful to continue straight across it heading north.
