It marks the spot where the vehicle driven by Orlando Letellier came to rest after the bomb which took his life and that of one of his passengers. This happened in the 1970s. At that time I was under the impression Washington DC was one of the safest cities in the world. That was due to having been taught in school about the forts built surrounding the city during the civil war. Afterwards I saw things differently.”
