One of my favorite places in the U.S. Cumberland Island is full of wildlife including wild horses, armadillos and gorgeous deer. The beaches are unprecedented with excellent beachcombing and white sand beach and dunes for a mile or more. The ruins themselves are captivating including gardens, pool area, gorgeous marble statue and palm trees & live oaks. This is paradise.

We were on the island for a wedding and what a beautiful place! We went during the fall so the ferry ran less than during peak season. But, there is plenty to do to occupy your time. Island was very well maintained, clean despite all of the visitors and there were plenty of picnic tables to rest of needed. There were also plenty of restrooms scattered about. You must bring your own food and/or drinks. The ruins throughout the island and the wild horses were spectacular!

Absolutely beautiful way to spend a day. Would probably go in the spring or fall though when it isn’t as hot. Lots of mosquitoes so be sure to bring bug spray because they are relentless. We saw so many wild horses and foals.

This place is a hidden gem. It's a national park so veterans are free! However, you can only access by ferry out of St Marys georgia unless of course you have your own boat. I recommend you bring along a bicycle as the island is very large. Can't really see it all in one day. Wild horses and the island is covered in oak hammock. Did get some ticks on me though, something to consider. The photo ops are unreal. Follow me on the gram for more zech.browning.75

This place is beautiful. Be prepared to do a lot of walking and make sure to bring food and water. When you come to the island know that you're going on a day trip. The only downside to the place is all the horse droppings that's kind of hard to avoid. You will have to pay for a ferry and a park ticket but it's definitely worth the money.

The Carnegie Dungeness burned in the 1950s. Today, wild horses and other island wildlife roam freely throughout the ruins and along the beach. Glimpses of the Carnegie lifestyle can be easily imagined throughout the ruins of Dungeness, and through the abandoned luxury vehicles. The first Dungeness was built in 1783 by Nathanael Green.
