First got here. In 1994 - found when looking for a lost pet . Second beagle Jan first 2021 middle of pandemic . They had a dog that was a handful and I was the willing participant .
I walked into the shelter 3 days ago - not knowing that I would leave with my “furever friend”. I visited the cat room and saw a kitten looking directly at me from his cage. He literally stood right on up. I told the officer that we would like to adopt him. Yeah, I didn’t hesitate at all. Things work a bit differently at this shelter. You have to be on a waiting list to adopt and it’s in numerical order. See, it’s my second time visiting and I wanted to make sure I was first this time. I don’t know if people believe in higher powers but whatever it was …. it worked in my favor because I was able to take him home on the same day! I named him Neo and he’s such a sweet boy. Thanks to the staff.
I found a stray cat in my yard. Took it to Cobb County Animal Service where they have a stray hold for 5 business days, practically a week, to give any owner a chance to reclaim the pet. No one did and I adopted the cat at the end of stray-hold. They give the pet to the first on adoption waiting list for it who shows up first on day of adoption eligibility. The info about all pets they have with pictures are online on their web page. They vaccinate cats against rabies and 3 respiratory viruses, deworm them, apply treatment for fleas and mites and neuter/spay them before giving them away for adoption.
The cat I adopted has a heart murmur, so it was not neutered and I had to sign a neutering agreement to get it neutered within 30 days of adoption after being cleared by a vet under threat of $1000 fine if not neutered.
During this process I communicate multiple times during working hours by phone and in person with staff. All were very friendly and professional.
Great shelter to find a new friend. It's clean and has a friendly and knowledgeable staff. It's a very nice and clean facility. We found our new family pet Leo there, he's a great dog who is fitting in nicely with our family! If you're looking for a new pet please consider Cobb County Animal Shelter, I wish I could have adopted 2 pets, there were so many animals there that needed a new home.
