Metro Center Station

Usually but not always free of the smell of urine. It's a heated space, so it attracts homeless.

The whole site especially parking feels a bit threadbare and worn though pretty clean and signage is limited. That said, I and a few other out of state friends have parked here to ride the South Shore into Chicago. It was easy and efficient. It seemed like the perfect balance of driving/riding/parking and I wasn't disappointed.
Tips if you are doing the same.
Go straight upstairs and use the ticket vending machine, if off peak, or traveling with kids read everything carefully and use the "More Fares" button liberally to get the right ticket and avoid overpaying. When you are ready just go through the double doors leading to the enclosed walkway that takes you to the platform.

Trains usually run on time and they come about every hour. Buses are always in and out through out the day and night. Not many places you cant get to from this location. Restrooms and security are on site. Overall not a bad metro station. If it's late it tends to be a little sketchy but it is Gary, IN so just be careful.
