“A great campground for all! Plenty of activities for everyone. They had a concert one night. They also had a nice craft show. The grounds are kept near and orderly. Our power was 30 amp service. Cart rental was out of carts but understandably you need to reserve ahead of time. Worth it as the campground is quite large.”

“Beautiful serene park in the heart of Grass Lake. The Whistlestop train depot is a beautifully restored building that can be rented out to the public for parties. And the flower gardens are a great background for photos. A must stop if in the area.”

Bathrooms were locked but we were told ahead of time about that and a nearby gas station let the kids use their facilities (we made some small purchases as a gesture for their kindness)”

“Great family campground that is open for all the events at MIS. Been going there for the last 20 years. Very convenient to main gate at MIS. If you're looking for a quiet place to camp for the races, this is the place. They have pay showers. Keep the grass cut. Very nice experience.”

“Check in was fast, friendly and quick. I had a pull through site with full hook up. The electric, water and sewer hook up line were all new and really easy to connect. The pool is clean and warm. There are play areas for kids and 2 fenced in dog parks. If you bring your golf cart, there's a one way trail that goes all the way around the rv park through woods and corn fields. There is a walking trail. They have a small store at the office and there is laundry on site. Security does rounds on there golf cart. All of the staff and guests are very friendly. I will be back.”

“I am 68 years old, and my father used to take my younger brother and I here when we were little. I hike the Waterloo area a lot, and was surprised when I found the old Mud Lake site. I was amazed at how the much the damn had shrunken since I was a child. It is a nice place to spent a lazy afternoon, and in my case brought back memories of a loving father.”

“Portage Lake Campground exceeded my expectations in every way! The picturesque setting nestled amidst nature's beauty provided the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. The well-maintained campsites offered ample space and privacy, and the stunning views of Portage Lake were simply breathtaking. The campground facilities were top-notch, with clean restrooms and hot showers that made camping much more comfortable. The friendly and helpful staff added to the overall positive experience, ensuring we had everything we needed throughout our stay. One of the highlights was the abundance of outdoor activities available. We enjoyed hiking the nearby trails, which offered a diverse range of difficulty levels and rewarded us with stunning vistas. Fishing on Portage Lake was a delight, and we even managed to spot some local wildlife during our stay. The sense of tranquility and serenity at Portage Lake Campground was unmatched. Whether sitting by the campfire under a starry night sky or waking up to the soothing sounds of nature, it was an idyllic retreat that rejuvenated our spirits. The only minor downside was the limited availability of electrical hookups, but it was a small trade-off for such a pristine natural environment. Overall, Portage Lake Campground is a gem of a destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts alike. I cannot wait to return and create more lasting memories in this picturesque paradise.
