I've been coming here for years and it's still just a nice place tucked away from the rest of vegas. On top of it being about 20 degrees cooler it's not as busy as some of the other places. Definitely a place to check out just to get away.
This place is a nice place to chill. Maybe have a picnic under the trees and watch the wild horses eat grass. The horses are probably used to people, but be careful around them. You have to approach them from the front, not the back. Otherwise they will get startled and react defensively. It's pretty neat seeing them up close and personal.
This is a great spot for a picnic or to stretch your legs. There is only a wide shoulder for parking. There are picnic areas around this spot but really no facilities at this exact area. It's mainly a meadow to stop and see the mustangs.
Now I know they are pretty used to people and people like to feed them. But they are wild animals and it's a huge fine to feed them. And they are large unpredictable animals. My companion was just standing and thought one of the horses was approaching her. She didn't move to it. But it was a momma horse and she didn't like us being too close and she turned her back end to my friend. This is when I luckily stopped taking photos of the mountain and looked her way. I told her urgently to move away quickly cause momma horse was telling her that if she didn't move she was going to get kicked.
So please, give these beautiful animals their space. Look from afar. Don't sneak up on them. They are wild and should not be messed with no matter how friendly they seem. Especially when they have foals
My only complaint was that people can't clean up after themselves. There were cigarette butts everywhere and trash just dumped all over. I even picked up pieces of glass. Why can't people clean up after themselves? And just takes one cigarette to start a fire. I picked up a little bit but the area could use more people to go out and put in a little effort for the people that are disgusting and lazy. It's so upsetting.
Also remember it's cooler up on the mountain you may need a jacket. Also drive the speed limit. Cops do hide out up there but really the bigger threat is that a horse or deer or hiker can pop out of nowhere. Please be safe. Take your time and enjoy the views.
Plenty of space to run around. Ample parking along the street. Temperatures up to 30° lower than in Las Vegas, and great views of the Spring Mountains. This is a great place to visit.
