My weekend stay at Summerhouse truly exceeded my expectations. The compound’s design, a conglomeration of rustic nautical motifs with dashes of modern elements (bathrooms, appliances etc.) was chic and aesthetically pleasing to say the least. The guests were friendly and the owners were welcoming, with loads of insider information regarding local dining and activities to explore while visiting. I would highly recommend Summerhouse to anyone interested in a clean, relaxing, and unique atmosphere while staying in Highlands!
I have never been a fan of the large impersonal hotel. Summerhouse is my ideal version of a-place-to-stay-that-isn't-home. Each cottage is like a mini house with all the comfort and care to detail we all wish for. I even loved the towels better than my own back home. I went alone with my dog and stayed in one of the 2 dog-friendly cottages with my own private yard. If I felt like being social, there was a communal courtyard and a fire pit. The main house was also always open with a huge well stocked kitchen and washing machine. I love this place.
My Husband I fell in love with our cottage. The owners attention to detail to our stay was quite refreshing! We absolutely love the shower! The location to the beaches was an added bonus! We will definitely be back!
Loved the cottage and the entire compound. Lots of innovative design throughout. Mattress was very comfortable and although when we woke up on Sunday the outside temperature was 15 degrees we were very comfortable. We live in Buffalo, NY and visit our friends/family in NJ often so this will be our go to place to stay.
A fantastic experience all around -- good clean cottage with a wonderfully firm mattress on the bed; very helpful host; and marvelous access to the charming town of Highlands, to the great local forest, and of course to Sandy Hook National Park. My wife and I came by ferry from Manhattan, which was itself an incredible experience -- both the trip there by day and the even more spectacular return trip by sunset and afterglow. Most highly recommended!
