“The place at the pond is beautiful. From what I gathered you should check availability for RV sites in advance, but spots for tents are mostly available. Big shoutout to Jim for taking care of us when we got there in the evening and left the following morning. If he reads this, best regards from the 2 German Cadets and thank you again!”

Popolopen

Address: 288-404 Mine Rd, Highland Falls, NY 10928, USA

Park

“From the Parking area on Mine Road this is a great short 2 mile hike that can be done as a loop. When leaving the parking area hike up the steep section and stay to the left. This will lead you to a more challenging section that has a rock scramble to the top. This route provides some of the best views when getting to the summit. Once on top there is a monument to the fallen Hero's. Please be respectful when at the monument. After taking in some of the best views proceed on and take the rock stairs down. There is one section on the way back that i a rock slab and there is a thick heavy rope to help those that are a little skidish down. This slab can be slippery after a rain and in winter can be icy but is the best route to take when leaving the summit.”

Popolopen Torne Parking

Address: 288 Mine Rd, Highland Falls, NY 10928, USA

Park

“I highly recommend hiking the Popolopen Torne trail, popularly known as "Trail of the Fallen". You'll find the trail head at the information kiosk in Fort Montgomery directly across from the small parking space. For the average hiker, it will take you about 30 minutes to reach the summit. Make sure to wear grippy trail shoes or hiking boots. In the fall, hiking boots make a huge difference because the rocks and little crevices are hidden by all the leaves and makes navigating the floor of the forest a little more tricky. Toward the top, there is a steep section outfitted with ropes to help. During the colder months, it is partially covered in ice, so please be careful! Once at the top, you'll find some peaceful areas to rest and photograph, and the 360 degree views are insanely gorgeous!. Please respect the memorial site as many come to honor those who have served and who are still serving. Consider carrying a "memorial- rock" or momento to share and honor someone who has made the ultimate sacrifice. We've taken our lab hiking up here with no issues, and have seeing both young and old do this hike. Enjoy!”
